Taking a moment on 初三 (third day of the Lunar New Year) to appreciate the barely-noticeable aspects (people) of everyday life.
This was taken at Kranji War Memorial, where I went as part of a National Education tour during my reservist. Quite apt to take this post as tribute to an individual who preserves the environment these soldiers fought so valiantly for.
If you see flower crowns starting to pop up at future events, remember that you first saw them at #glowbeatsg ! I remember when Fauzi first asked if I'd buy them and I was like sure, if I had a girlfriend 👀Didn't think I'd buy one for myself in the end 🤣 📷: @johnjohnah
"You look so happy! Must post this!" Yes it me floating around in the ball pit at @glowbeatsg 😂 We're open again from 11-11 today and tomorrow! Use the hashtag #glowbeatsg on your stories and posts so I can check out your pics 😉 📸: @johnjohnah
@glowbeatsg is happening this weekend and that's where I'll be from today till Sunday. For a bit of context, Glowbeat is TSL's first ever event and has been @mynameisfauzi's baby from Day 1. He and his team (@wolfg.rl + @helloelaineoh) have OT-ed and made many sacrifices for it to come to fruition, and I'm super excited it's finally happening.
Come on down to Scape if you're free this weekend! We're open from 11AM-11PM daily. I'll be there every day, plus Fauzi and Xenia will be performing a dance on SATURDAY AT 4PM. So if there's a day you want to visit, make it this Saturday 😁
Sidenote: If you're of legal drinking age, there's gonna be a bar with beer and ciders at Glowbeat. Just look out for the Glow Bar with this neon sign! 🙏
Last team photo of the year, and I'm immensely grateful for how the 2017 workyear turned out.
Shoutout to my editors Kimberly, Rachel, Ra, and Jessica. Y'all might have caused me a world of headaches over the past year, but I don't doubt for even a second you've saved me from so much more.
Let's hope 2018 will be kind.
I don't typically celebrate occasions like birthdays or Christmases, but annual Christmas celebrations with family are always special.
Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you're a grumpy grinch like me, try giving the spirit of giving another go this year 😉🎅
Super stoked for your (Sweet) Dreams to be coming to life @bellywellyjelly! You're a living example that a good person who hustles can still make it in this world and we're all super proud of ya!
Check out @iamkai.co for their newest range of bags and purses that will be going on pre-sale tomorrow, details on their page 😉
It's been more than 4 (!!!) years since I've graduated, and I still remember how lost I was when it happened. I majored in Sociology, took almost as many Communications modules as Soci, and secretly (deeply) loved the 4 Philosophy modules I took. If you knew me well, you'd appreciate how all these have shaped me into the person that I am.
When I graduated, I didn't know what I was going to do. Because of my major, I thought my career would involve social research and helping the poor. But after a year of rejections, I had to look elsewhere.
TSL was actually the second company to offer me a job; the first was a technical writing position that promised to be dreadfully boring yet deeply satisfying. I rejected them after the boss told me to expect hard slogging for 3 years before seeing any results. I *am* a millennial after all.
Looking back, I never expected to stay in a company this long. In fact, most of my friends have left their first companies, but while I don't vocalise it enough, I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had at TSL.
In my first year, my boss (@thesmartlocal) gave me tickets for 2 to Krabi as a reward for working so hard. I might be wrong, but I don't think I (willingly) took any leaves that year.
This year, I went on my first official company trip to Osaka, where we visited and wrote a guide to @UniversalStudiosJapan. It was tough but fulfilling, and my Mi Band says we walked over 20,000 steps at one point 😅
If you've read this far, thanks for having the interest and patience to read about my post-grad life. You can be part of TSL's journey moving forward. Our Editorial team is currently looking for intern writers to join us from Jan-July 2018. A 6-month commitment period is required.
If you're 18 or above and are interested in applying, send your resume and cover letter (3 paragraphs max!) to Yen at HR@thesmartlocal.com. Find out more at http://bit.ly/TSL-internships
Hope to see you soon!
Explored @orchardroad.sg's Christmas decorations with @umeharakeiji. This exhibit's at Forum, and is pretty far from the others, but is one of our favourites. (This is part of our ongoing effort to #postbeforexavierlur 😂) 📷: @umeharakeiji
