Dhumavati, one of the Mahavidyas, and the most interesting deity I have ever worked with.
Her ugliness is always described in great detail. She is an angry, unsteady, old widow who wears snakes and dirty, old rags taken from the charnel grounds. She is often depicted riding in a chariot without any animals to pull it, sometimes she is shown riding atop a crow. She likes offerings of meat, alcohol, and smoke. She carries a broom, a winnowing basket, a torch, and a club. She is rude, always hungry and thirsty, “likes to create strife”, “is without mercy”, and “dwells in areas of the path that are perceived to be desolate”. Her origin myth is that she is an emanation of Sati that was so hungry she decided to eat Shiva.
I love her. I see her as a wise crone, a witch, and a healthy reminder that the spiritual path is not clean, tidy, pure, or predictable. No matter our path or affiliations we all experience suffering. Do we use our strife as a tool to drop deeper and deeper into awareness or do we avoid it because it is messy and won’t fit into our beautifully curated ideas of what a spiritual being is supposed to look like? Look at the messes in your life. They are holy. Your shadows are holy. When we allow ourselves to fully drop into and feel our shame and pain, it will become the place where we find our power. We become ourselves. Without this acknowledgment and integration the spiritual path is superficial and mostly meaningless 🖤

I often use selenite to help clear and charge my other crystals. I rarely find that I need to clear my selenite, but when I do I like to leave it under the full moon because of its association with the moon (I've heard people say that selenite cannot hold negative energy and actually never needs to be cleaned).
Rose Quartz! It has one of the sweetest, softest, most loving energies of all crystals, which is why it is one of the most popular. Many crystal healers and crystal experts recommend this as one of the most (if not THE most) important stones to have. Its soft pink energy is associated with the heart chakra and unconditional love. It carries within it the power of compassion, tenderness, motherly love, unconditional love, self-love, comfort, and nourishment. It can help to heal wounds around the heart, around those places where you have been hurt in love before. It reawakens powerful self-love and helps resolve old wounds or fears.

Sodalite is an excellent stone for those who need to speak their truth in a rational and efficient way. It helps with communication issues and can help to heal rifts between people caused by lack of clear communication. It is an encouraging stone that stimulates the upper chakras, opening up blocked creativity, which is why it is known as the poet's stone. It says "I know you can do it! Don't give up on yourself!" It is particularly helpful for those needing to communicate difficult issues around trust or love.
This afternoon was the first time I was able to really take in Here You Are. Enough time has passed since it’s conception for me to begin to see it as it is, with a beginner’s mind. I kind of can’t believe this book came out of me. It has all the wisdom I need to feel at home in my body and grounded to this earth.
Remember, remember, remember. It is vital to keep coming home to the present moment, to the body, to kindness. Simplicity is the most potent medicine I know.
I’ve decided to do a lil 1.5 day sale on Here You Are, starting now and ending tomorrow at midnight est. Use the code “ONEANDAHALF” on either kathrynsolie.com or my Etsy shop to get 20% off the book 💗💗💗
Green quartz is a heart chakra crystal that has a healing and opening effect on the energetic heart. It can help to stimulate creativity while transmuting negative energy into positive energy. It is a great stone from manifesting unconditional love towards oneself and others. I've found that when used in combination with rose quartz it is a particularly powerful love stone as each stone amplifies the others energies. It can be good for manifesting empathy in stressful environments.
“...throw roses into the abyss and say: 'here is my thanks to the monster who didn't succeed in swallowing me alive.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche
Celebrating the second day in a row of my favorite, foggy, inward kind of weather. My body and soul so deeply missed this when I lived in Colorado 🖤
I often use selenite to help clear and charge my other crystals. I rarely find that I need to clear my selenite, but when I do I like to leave it under the full moon because of its association with the moon (I've heard people say that selenite cannot hold negative energy and actually never needs to be cleaned). I use a piece like this one to cleanse my tarot deck ✨
