Grateful to kick off New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. (And to look cute doing it!) Coincidentally (or not), I started listening to the audiobook of @vvanedwards’ Captivate today. The first chapter offered science-based tips for networking, which were highly useful for this recovering awkward person.
Y’all, I’d rather be on stage, talking to a whole room full of people any day versus standing awkwardly at a networking event, trying to remember people’s names and where I know them from. (My brain can only hold so much information at a time! It’s nothing personal, I promise!) When I go to conferences I usually try to meet people who are going to the same event online ahead of time so it’s not so awkward.
Cheers to a hopefully not-totally-awkward week of entrepreneurial things! Thanks to @juliecouret for the cute picture & always being a great supporter!! 🎉 78 / 365 #yearofgratitude
Grateful to flex my #designthinking muscles with @taylortulane today. I first participated in their Fast 48 design thinking crash course a year ago, and I helped out as a coach in November and today. They offer this intro to design thinking (also known as human-centered design) twice a year, in the spring and fall. It’s open to members of the community, not just students. If you live in New Orleans, I highly recommend it. Design thinking tools and know-how are useful in many aspects of work and daily life. (And the importance of this skill set is ever increasing due to the automation of many traditional jobs and tasks.) If you’re outside of NOLA, there are plenty of other resources for learning. Stanford University has an online design thinking crash course. There’s also lots of overlap with the methods shared at @cpsiconference — you can join me there in Buffalo NY this June!

I feel like I’m beginning to truly embrace the role of “tech translator”. In a lot of ways, it’s what I’ve done for the past few years, teaching and explaining the basics of SEO (search engine optimization), social media, and digital marketing to people intimidated by those types of tech.
Now, in my role of Director of Marketing at @lookfar_ideas, I’m grateful for the opportunity to push myself even further, helping super smart software developers translate what they do into language that non-tech folks can understand. It’s an important job, bridging that gap, and I’m grateful to be the one to do it.
This photo is me speaking on stage at @hellonoew last year, on the stage sponsored by LookFar, a few months before I even dreamed of working here. It’s so cool to see where things have gone, one year later, as I’m looking forward to moderating a #NOEW2018
panel I dreamed up. It’s all about the tech startup scene across the Southeastern region, and I’m pretty proud of my catchy title: Red States, Blue Ocean: How Silicon South Presents Uncharted Opportunity for Startups. It’s free to attend NOEW, so join me next Friday 3/23 to learn more!

Grateful to spend the morning learning more about what @trustforpublicland is doing to preserve and protect our coastal land in southern Louisiana. It’s a HUGELY important issue that affects everyone who lives in this region. Want to learn more? Let me know and I’ll put you in touch with the right people.
Grateful to spend the evening chatting & recording an upcoming @badasscreatives interview with @nettdesigns. I have so much good stuff coming your way on the podcast!

Grateful to knock some stuff off my (way too long) to-do list. Honestly, I’m feeling a bit over-extended, energy-zapped, and this whole losing an hour due to daylight savings time is NOT helping matters. I’m grateful for the myriad of opportunities that come my way and inspiration and ideas I want to execute on, but I’d be grateful for a few extra hours of sleep and some time to let my mind rest and recharge, ya heard?

Grateful for @evilpenguinlabs, who makes me dinner and takes care of our elderly dog’s messes when she saves them for him until after I’ve left the house for work. (And then jokes about how she’s orchestrating it that way to smash the patriarchy!) Grateful for sisters, both biological and from other misters.

I know I said it before, but some things bear repeating.
Grateful to live in a world full of so many smart, strong, badass women. It may be 200 years down the road for all we know, but the matriarchy is coming. May we come to know a world where every day is International Women’s Day.
