This picture captures a few of the incredible women I have been fortunate enough to grow up with and meet. I feel so lucky to have been raised by strong women who taught me my worth and showed me women can do anything they want. I can’t wait to pass that along to my children someday, and it helps knowing that I have a wonderful husband who supports me and treats me as his equal partner. Happy international women’s day! #iwd2018
#meetthemaker month has gotten away from me for the last couple days, due to forgetfulness and lack of inspiration. But this post covers days 5, 6, and 7. My workspace is typically my couch, which also ties into my routine. As seen in the background of the first photo, I work in chaos rather than routine most of the time. I work full time and have to squeeze my work into by free time, which means I don’t always have a lot of spare time to clean up between projects. As for photography, I take all my own photos on my cell phone at the moment, although my husband has been my helper for my crochet scarves in the past. You can see me taking a picture in the silver bulbs in the second photo! I learned a ton from @toshacolephoto during our maker sessions last year about setting up flatlays, and I really love looking for little nick nacks everywhere I go for using in my flatlays.
#meetthemaker day 4 is my favorite thing to make, and my favorite thing to make is my own patterns! I like playing around with layout and spending the tedious time to color all the little squares in by hand. It’s very satisfying and I have found it to be an excellent creative outlet for me. There is no end to the ideas I can put to paper and it makes me feel like I’m really accomplishing something to finally make an idea I’ve been playing with into a fully developed pattern.
#meetthemaker day 3 is how I got started! The picture says it all, my mama taught me. I come from a family of creatives, and my mom and both grandmas sew, quilt, crochet, and cross stitch. I started learning to cross stitch in elementary school, and some of my very first pieces are in the second picture (notice how they’re STILL not finished after all these years). I learned how to crochet in college, and just like my mom you will find me doing one or the other pretty much any time I’m sitting still.
I missed it yesterday, but it’s #meetthemaker month and I’m doing days 1 and 2 together! My name is Kara and I am an crafter. I picked it up from both my parents, I grew up in a family that holds the philosophy “I could just make that myself!” I have stuck to mostly cross stitch and crochet the last couple years, but I enjoy all sorts of crafts as well as baking and cooking. As for where, I take my work anywhere I can, but the majority of the time you will find me on my couch stitching away and binging a tv show. My husband and I recently bought our house and are now permanent residents of Saginaw, MI!
Finally got myself a hoop stand and I freaking LOVE IT!! It’s so nice to be able to straighten out my threads without holding my hoop up with my chin or chest. Also, SO to my hubs for getting a brighter bulb for this work lamp, it’s not too shabby for #wip pics!
Spreading some more shop love! Check out my friend’s shop Delirious Blue Jewelry! She hand makes tons of different types of jewelry, including her signature bird’s nest necklaces and this custom piece she made for me to gift to a friend! She is insanely talented and I love watching her learn and put her passion into her pieces. #loveyourshopsweeps#etsy#etsyseller
Etsy is encouraging everyone to show their shops some love today, and I am really trying to get back in a good rhythm with my shop after settling into our new house. Here’s to my shop Imaginative Musings, and thank you to everyone who has shown me some love with your orders! ❤️ #loveyourshopsweeps
