Slowly with a lot of patience I’m building up my practice again to the level it used to be. I never thought I would be so patient with myself.
Maybe it’s because I know that I wont have any more children and that I know that from now on my asana (yoga posture) practice can evolve more than ever... But on the other hand, I don’t know what life will bring me. There’s no security for a consistent practice that you don’t have to adjust, because of a particular phase you’re going through. 
Maybe I just grew in the practice of yoga and care less about which asanas I can or can’t do. I like to believe I’m more detached from my asana practice. But let me be clear, I don’t find my asana practice less important on the contrary, I can’t be on my best without it. The intention just changed, I guess I can say I matured in my practice after almost 20 years 😉🤗😁

When you practice at home and you hear your teacher in your head, saying with a very strict tone: “walk, walk, walk, breathe, walk more”. I love how they gently push you (although it feels brutal sometimes) to become better, on and off the mat.

We get so caught up in our thoughts that we forget who we are. It’s important to not identify ourselves with our thoughts and for that Yoga is a very powerful tool. 
But if you want result, you’ll have to stick with your decision to practice yoga. Always, on and off the mat, it will take a long time. No shortcuts! We’ll have to peel off the layers one by one to find our true self ♡ 
Enjoy the ride! 
As Guruji said: “Practice and all is coming”. And with that he didn’t mean just the good stuff...

I fell in love with Ashtanga 14 years ago, after practicing traditional Hatha Yoga (also lovely btw), but I never felt what I felt during my first Ashtanga class. Ashtanga doesn’t leave anything out, the whole body gets attention. And when I started Practicing it, I experienced stillness for the first time in my life. And that’s why I do it, that’s why I get back on my mat every time again. Ashtanga makes you suffer but you get so much in return...

The main practice of Hatha Yoga, in my case Ashtanga, is to open the middle pathway (the Sushumna Nadi / the primary of the 3 main  subtle energy channels). Prana (Life force or vital energy) can not flow free when the movement of Prana is not balanced. And without a balanced body the mind can not be balanced. 
Therefore the body needs to be cleared from old memories and traumas. Asana practice helps you to purify the body and brings stability in the mind, it prepares you for meditation. 
Meditation is not the goal of Hatha yoga, it’s the purpose ♡

Je kan je dus rustig komen verdiepen en een consequente yoga beoefening cultiveren zonder dat je de teacher training moet volgen. “The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.” I love this quote by B.K.S. Iyengar, it’s says it all.
Sometimes we just need a little reminder to get us back on our mats, a little gentle push towards the right direction. Have you ever questioned yourself why you started practicing asana yoga in the first place, and why you stopped and started again and so on? 
You have to be very disciplined to keep on going. Maybe you’re lacking some inner strength or you find it hard to organize your life? The good news is, yoga makes you stronger and I’m not talking about the physical strength that you most certainly will gain. 
Practicing asana yoga has so much benefits and gaining more willpower and discipline are definitely on the list. Since I have 3 children I really need to plan my asana practice into my agenda and that helps. There will always be hundreds of things to do, but I can’t do them if my soul is restless in a stiff unhealthy body. Get on your mats people, if I can do it you can do it 💕🧘🏻‍♀️

The complete practice, practicing all the limbs of yoga. Only doing asana’s (yoga postures) is not yoga, you’ll also have to take it off the mat. Don’t get me wrong, asana practice, breath work and meditation are the tools to get you there. It’s the challenge in the practice that will make you a more gentle and kind person who, for example, will respond differently in stressful situations and will be able to keep the calm towards the person who is challenging you. Asana practice is not designed to be fun, it’s designed to be challenging, to get to the bone of things, to work on the complete human being.
I’m not saying you can’t enjoy your asana practice but it’s about going into the challenge. Doing the asana’s that you dislike and breathe trough them. Sit down and meditate even though you don’t have the patience yet, breathe and be still. 
Saravanga Sadhana is about body, mind and soul. Yoga is a science, you may trust the system that when you have a consistent practice of asana, pranayama and meditation that it will make you a nicer person, also towards yourself 🧘🏻‍♀️ 🧘🏾‍♂️ And one more thing, a little reminder to not compare yourself with people on instagram who have beautiful pictures in advanced postures, it doesn’t always mean they’re practicing Saravanga Sadhana, it could also just mean that they’re very flexible 🙃

I decided to do some extra asana work for the pelvic floor and hips, since my last pregnancy it’s all a bit blocked in that aria, and it blocks my energy. I can feel the difference before and after, during my practice it’s only after janu shirshasana B that I feel this energy boost and I always stay longer in this position because it feels really good. I notice the same energy boost when I work on splits. My splits used to be pretty good, now I really need to discipline myself to stay for 5 breaths 😰 hoping to post a better version of this picture in a couple of months. And when I do so I know my body will be more relaxed. If you have any tips or tricks please share ☺️🙏🏼

Although my practice is kinda steady again, not up to 6 times a week yet, I notice that that real calm that you get from asana practice and meditation is not totally back yet. 
Sure I’m much calmer then I would be without a practice but I can compare with many other years. 2017 was a very heavy year, we reconstructed our house, the agenda of my husband was CRAZY and so was mine.. my practice was on and off and I was so tired I couldn’t lift my arms sometimes (but I had to anyway) 🙋🏻‍♀️
But dear Goddess was I spoiled the last 2 weeks, my husband was at home the whole time. I was so relaxed! 💆🏻‍♀️ But this weekend I felt a bit nervous and today I was so tired like I was up all night. So It got me thinking 🤔 nope it couldn’t have been my practice because I didn’t went full on. So I did some introspection, something you get better at when on the magical path of yoga. I wasn’t really myself this weekend just because tomorrow it’s Monday, holidays are over and the rush will start again! So I really failed at being in the present moment 🧘🏻‍♀️ and I can’t shake it off, even though I know 2018 will be a lighter year and my husband his agenda in January is kinda okay. 
Oh well I will have to let go like I will have to let go that my foot looks like a Dutch clog in this picture 😉🙃 Join us tomorrow for lots of yoga. Schedule is in my stories .

Although my practice is kinda steady again, not up to 6 times a week yet, I notice that that real calm that you get from asana practice and meditation is not totally back yet. Sure I’m much calmer then I would be without a practice but I can compare with many other years. 2017 was a very heavy year, we reconstructed our house, the agenda of my husband was CRAZY and so was mine.. my practice was on and off and I was so tired I couldn’t lift my arms sometimes (but I had to anyway) 🙋🏻‍♀️ But dear Goddess was I spoiled the last 2 weeks, my husband was at home the whole time.
