Snow day deliciousness! Just tried these noodles from @lotusfoods and I’m obsessed. Stir fry veggies + garlic and ginger sautéed in sesame oil + a sauce of gluten free soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and sriracha = 😍 AND it’s weight watchers friendly- this whole bowl was 8 Freestyle Smart Points!
Today is the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman physician in the US, as well as National Women Physicians Day.
I want to use this day to briefly tell a part of my Nanimama’s (grandmother) story. My Nani was born in India and always had the dream of becoming a doctor. She was continually told that she couldn’t do it and that women should not be educated. But yet #ShePersisted and continually fought to get through school with the highest grades and made it through every barrier put in her way.
Even with her spirit and drive, life and politics happen and the Partition of India in 1947 resulted in her and her family becoming refugees. They lost everything and her dreams of completing her education and becoming a physician had to end.
But my Nanimama never gave up. She nurtured her children and encouraged their education. And because of her our family is FULL of doctors/medical students. We are all dedicated to the field and making her dreams a reality.
And even though today is about Women Physicians, I wanted to honor the woman who could not become a physician but who paved the way for many more women physicians to come.
She’s my inspiration and I’d love to hear about yours! Happy National Women Physicians Day to all of the amazing and inspiring women physicians and med students out there! •
Yes I’m doing a #tbt and embarrassing myself in honor of my baby sister @nikachugh’s 21st birthday!!! Even though we aren’t as adorable anymore and not as fashionable (especially me with my stretchy shirts), I’m glad we’re still so close. I love you so much and am so proud of you and I hope we can do a photo shoot just like this very soon ❤️
