A lot of people keep asking what are protein absorption rates and what's this whole business about slow and fast digesting proteins. Protein facilitates the repair of damaged tissues and muscle fibers and consequently muscle growth. The speed of absorption of dietary amino acids by the gut varies according to the type of ingested dietary protein. This in turn affects postprandial protein synthesis, breakdown, and deposition. For example, Whey protein is a fast absorbing protein and should be taken after a workout, while Casein is a much slower absorbing protein and is better before bed time. However, protein powders are supplements that are there to ensure that you are ingesting an adequate amount of protein, because you can't eat three to five kilograms of meat every day. It would be absurd and very expensive. Nonetheless, your nutrition should largely sourced from food. If you wish to maximise muscle recovery and body rejuvenation you need to make sure that you're ingesting slower absorbing proteins when you have large gaps between meals such as when you're sleeping. This will ensure that you have more available amino acids in the blood for much longer, hence helping to repair and maintain muscle mass, as well as keeping your fuller.
