Still waiting on confirmation, but I'm saddened to report that 2001 mare Chubby, in Cloud's band, died from foaling complications sometime in the last 24 hours.
Her 2018 foal is really cute, from photos I've seen, and is again NOT a lethal white this year, which normally would be cause for enormous celebration, but unfortunately, he or she will not survive long without the mother's milk and colostrum. The photos are mine, taken over the last 2 years. I don't know if the park will rescue the foal or not. I know some people are trying to contact Blake about rescuing it. I'll post if I learn more about that.
The last three photos are Chubby with her 2015 filly, White Sands, who was lethal white. I will elaborate on what that means tomorrow and how I got a photo of her, for those who don't know. Tonight, I grieve for the loss of a great mare in the park, who was a great mom and a staple of this wild herd. In the other photos, she is pictured with her 2017 colt, Bert, her stallion Cloud, and 1996 mare Flicka.
Rest In Peace, Chubby. Say hello to all the previous passed horses for me, especially your lethal white babies who will now come running back to you over the Rainbow Bridge!
We hiked down the Cascade trail in search of our beautiful brumbies.Such a glorious time of the year.
Spring is in the air ,the snow is melting ,the rivers are running, everything is coming to life.
This is definitely Gods country up here.
Oh my GOODNESS! Did I miss some Fonzi / Chip / Joy challenges this week? Or are these mares just tired of their men and moving along to the next?! Noe’lani NOT with Chip, but with Sweet Tea and Joy....I did NOT see Ms. Macky NOT was Susi Solé with Chip, but he had three of Fonzi’s mares and seems to have lost Johnny’s Star and Moonshadow? Or maybe they were lagging behind in the trees. Honestly it’s a little strange to visit on days where nobody is with the last band I saw them with! But I did get to say goodnight to Corky, see the sunset and greet a cute little fox! Happy Friday, Assateague lovers!
It's seems to me like it's getting harder and harder for the wild ones to be free without also being a target. Whether it be from a camera, industrialist, conquerors, or cowboys...someone or something may come. Will it ever be better for these wild horses? Hard to say, but as I came across them by accident, I made no attempt to hide. They weren't scared, but didn't trust me. There was beauty in the boundaries they set. I hope they stay free. #wildhorses#publicappeal#publicland#wildhorsepc
