van living has taught me so much about simplicity. for the first time, i feel aware of what i truly need. on the road, everything takes much more time, energy and perseverance than what i'm used to. and working so hard for the simple pleasures that most people overlook every day makes me appreciate them more than ever. i take pride in every cup of coffee, every clean undie and every shower i take (even if it's just a swim in the lake). the more time i spend traveling, the more "normal" this lifestyle feels to the one i used to live.
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Colossians 2: 6-7
Today I turned to the mountains to hold me as I felt the deep sorrow and disappointment of perceived failure. Facing one of my worst fears —failing—isn’t easy. I took care of myself by packing my day with mountains: skiing in the morning, trail running in the afternoon, and scrambling the 2nd flatiron before sunset! Now, I’m heading off for a night of partner dancing in a community I love. I am lucky to have the support of mountains, movement, and friends as my heart feels.
It’s hard to believe that I am lucky enough to scuba dive off the coast of Nicaragua on Tuesday and ski in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado on Friday! I am grateful beyond words for the opportunities I have and the strength of my body to adventure in vastly different environments!
