Happy Mondays - Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches (1990)
Rounding up a week of glorious «Madchester» throwbacks with this perfect mix of indie rock, house beats and Northern soul. Hey, these 24 hour party people even coined the term for the dancefloor friendly indie rock of the late eighties and early nineties on their Madchester Rave On EP in 1989. I don’t know what kind of magic potion Mr Shaun Ryder and the lads were on when cooking up this unexpected and gloriously funky mix of rave culture and indie rock influences that still will leave no dancefloor empty 28 years on (although I am willing to make an educated guess). Still one of my favourite Saturday night records. Or, as Mr Ryder himself might put it, it’s still twisting my melon man. You know you talk so hip man, you’re twisting my melon man.
