Yet another beauty from Miss Y during our "Underwater" themed painting session. 🐟
We credit her as the artist and marvel at the signature art style she consistently shows but as the teacher I see and know that her work is often the product of collaboration and friendship. A buddy to hold the colours up for her to choose, to remind her to look where she's painting, to help her clean the paint (which gets EVERYWHERE) off her hands and yours. Partnering with a yStar can be both thrilling and tiring, but it's in moments (and paintings) like these that we see the rewards.
Thank you volunteers (and wendodo), you guys are my MVPs every week
3\21 is national down syndrome awareness day. that day was chosen because children born with #DS have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome instead of the normal 2. Please wear Mix match socks in honor of someone you know or love with DS #321#trisomy21#t21rocks#upwithdown#mixedbabies
Had to share this story that first time chaperone, Laura, wrote while on her Nashville trip with @tripsinc ! So sweet! .
“Ever have one of those priceless moments in life that will stick with you forever? Gives you goosebumps and chokes you up a little? I had one of those today, and I want to share it.
My friend Jon and I were walking down the street today when a young boy with Down Syndrome, also walking down the street with his parents, made a B-line for Jon and without hesitation or introduction, wrapped his arms around Jon for a hug! Jon, with the biggest smile ever on his face, turned to me and said “He’s just like me!!!” Trying not to cry, but struck by intense emotion, I smiled and said, “Ask him his name”. His name was Kevin and he also was excited to meet Jon, who was “just like him” They both shared an instant bond. How awesome to know you are different, but not alone. While we are all humans with all the same parts and all the same feelings, it’s comforting to connect with those most like ourselves!
I am so blessed to know Jon and so amazed by his passion, his fearlessness and his kindness! More Jon’s and Kevin’s in the world would sure make it a happier and better place!
And thank you Trips Inc. Special Adventures for letting me be part of what you do, AMAZING!!!!!”
