Andy Warhol died on this day in 1987. His influence can be seen far and wide, in some works more literally than others. This work by Italian duo Giampaolo Bertozzi and Stefano Dal Monte Casoni is actually ceramic, fashioned to look like a discarded version of the box that Andy so famously appropriated. From the collection of Jerome and Ellen Stern, it is being offered by @sothebys in New York on March 5

Murals have many different functions.
Some are created to inhabit places that would otherwise seem empty, whilst others are designed to hide unsightly areas.
The most important function of murals is to give identity to otherwise uniform spaces.
