Washington Market, now known as TriBeCa, was once a food market, and some of the items sold there included coffee, teas, spices and nuts. These buildings on Greenwich and Hubert Street are just a couple of the many former warehouses in the neighborhood that have long been converted to residential apartments. If you look closely at the photo you can see the faded signage advertising “Morrison & Boinest Coffee Roasting & Spice Grinding For the Trade.

For 25 years, Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr somehow kept a low profile cooking together in such major-league Manhattan restaurants as Balthazar and Minetta Tavern. In early March they’ll open a hotly anticipated place of their own. At Frenchette, in Tribeca, the chefs promise personal takes on the classic French cooking they’ve perfected over decades. These lamb meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce, their second Slow Food Fast recipe, provide a prime example. Read more at the link in our bio. Photo by @ryanliebe for The Wall Street Journal.⠀
“The second thing he told me - he was newly married at the time - was that he was surprised by the media attention his wife was getting, that he was seeing the world through the eyes of a normal person for the first time and seeing how odd his life had been. It was normal to him, but he was surprised by how undone she was by it all. ‘She didn’t ask for it. All she did was marry me,’ he said. -Cokie Roberts 1999
Travelling for work as a freelancer is awesome, but trust me when I say that it is NOT easy. You only have a certain amount of time to get quality content, and you have to roll with whatever conditions are presented to you... because the work needs to get done no matter what. 🤷🏼♀️
This trip to NYC on assignment for @porterairlines has really challenged me, from the non-stop rain to the super dark interiors with artificial lighting, to the busy spaces filled with people trying to keep out of the downpour. You can have a plan to take a gorgeous shot of a space during the two hours of daylight that's given to you, only to rock up and find a line-up out the door or no seats by the window. THE STRESS IS REAL.
That being said, it's those kind of challenges that force me to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things creatively. My photography from this trip is moody AF, and I'm loving playing with light and shadows and letting my eye go beyond the obvious shot to try something new. 😊
