I've been thinking a LOT about Welsh Woollen Mills recently (nothing new there) does anyone have any stories about the mills they would like to share? Past or present, or maybe family members who used to work in the industry? I would love to hear from you! firstname.lastname@example.org
My family & I are on holiday in Wales as we wrap up our summer. We managed to sneak in a stop at Trefriw Woollen Mills for some snacks and a tour of their Mill. In Wales, tapestry bedspreads were given as wedding gifts and later considered family heirlooms. At TWM, they have been weaving the same pattern, carrying out the full process from fleece to fabric, since the 19th century. While I didn't get a full bedspread I couldn't help but come away with a beautiful double weave throw with their distinctive and exclusive pattern. I think the kids were more interested in the turbine powering the mill 😀 #knittersofinstagram#weaving#wovenblanket#doubleweave#trefriwwoollenmills#trefriw
There are perhaps more sheep than people in the U.K., well at least it seems so, especially in the Spring when the unbelievably adorable lambs run riot in the fields. However, it is not everyday one gets to see what happens to said 🐑 wool once shorn! From fleece>washing>picking> carding>roving>spinning>skeining to loom to > jumper, cap, shawl, rug, scarf, socks etc. #trefriwwoollenmills
Trefriw Woollen Mill's tweeds are all woven on looms powered by a turbine which generates electricity for the mill. Taking their sustainability one step further, TWM commissioned KAPDAA to create notebooks from offcut materials to add to their gift range #trefriwwoollenmills#KAPDAA#notebooks#sustainable
Nas vylet do TREFRIW WOOLLEN MILS bol uzasny.Velmi som chcela vidiet postup spracovania ovcej vlny, preto som naplanovala tuto navstevu mlyna a muzea este na Slovensku. Videli sme ako sa prirodne farbi vlna. V zahradke nasadene rastlinky s pomenovanim a popisom. Bez umelych vlakien a chemickych farieb, kvalitne a krasne. A strasne dobry pocit vo mne ostava aj po navsteve, ze su ludia, ktori drzia tradicie a vyrobu aj ked je to tazsie.#trefriwwoollenmills#trefriw#wool#sheep#wales#snowdonia#tweed#tapestry ##snowdonianationalpark#igerscymru#visitwales
You never can have too many cast ons, can you?! Test knitting for @novelnaomi whilst watching @tinypaperfoxes and @brineandheath Using some deep stash. Yarn that I got at #trefriwwoollenmills when we were on holiday in North Wales
Berets berets and more berets. One of the major themes of the winter hats I dropped off at the Blackheath Hub today, and also of today's blog post (plus some pictures from the Wales trip - and there is a connection!)
Our main adventure today was the #trefriwwoollenmills It is a third generation wool mill that works on hydroelectric power. The top left is the garden that has plants that were traditionally used to dyes.
