Ekaterinburg located on eastern side of Ural mountains is one of the cities that will host 2018 FIFA matches. ✔The city was founded by1st Russian tsar-Peter the Great and is also the place where the last Russian tsar and his family were shot in a place where the Church of All Saints currently stands.
✔Ancient Greeks were already familiar with the territory of the Urals: Aeschylus, Plato and Herodotus mentioned in their writings the fantastic wealth of the Ural land, its mysterious power.
✔The world's oldest wooden sculpture – Big Shigir idol was founded here. The idol is older than the pyramids of Egypt, its age is 9,500 years. The idol was made with stone tools in the Mesolithic era, 8 millennium BC.
✔Ural Mountains are rich of mineral resources-oil, gas, gold mines. It is Europe's largest emerald deposit. The city was first in Russia where gold ore was found and gold mining began.
✔Metal produced at Ekaterinburg’s plants was used in construction of the most famous architectural structures and buildings around the world: the roof of the English Parliament in London, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Statue of Liberty in New York. ✔The first bicycle, a prototype of modern models, was invented in Ekaterinburg. Local peasant Efim Artamonov built a model not so different from modern bicycles and rode it to Saint Petersburg to attend the coronation of Emperor Alexander I in 1801. A similar two-wheeled “running machine” with pedals was made in Europe only in 1839.
✔In 2018 my motherland will host 3 games: Egypt-Uruguay, France-Peru, Japan-Senegal
