I remember when I was 17 I was told I would never make it in the real world. Well I decided to take those words and let them #transform me. Of course it hurt at the time.

Before I restarted my #fitness and wellness journey I was letting alcohol influence me. I was doing just that, letting the real world bring me back down. Alcoholism runs in my blood. Once I realized the downhill slope I was on I had a decision to make... keep going or halt that bs and bring it back to the top. 
_
Don’t let the ugly in this world bring you down. Because you might miss some of that #sunshine.

#mamabear As we enter week 7 of #ashleyhornertransformyou 2018, I just want to share with y’all how this has been going! The picture on the left is last night, at 14 weeks, 4 days postpartum. The picture on the right is 1 week postpartum. There’s a 52 pound difference between the two! In 6 weeks of working out and eating clean, I’ve lost 14 pounds and several inches without the use of supplements (because #breastfeeding ...) Because life happens, I’ve had to adjust a couple days the past couple weeks, but I’m still getting those workouts in and #FIGHTING THE #URGE to eat ice cream straight to my face. (And it is HARD.) I’m really proud of myself and you guys should be, too! It’s not always easy, but it’s important to push yourself and #truly #believe you can overcome daily #obstacles to get it done and keep yourself picked up. We all need the reminder. Today marks the last year in my 30’s. 
I do not fear this, I am not ashamed & NO, I do not think that I am getting older... .

As I ripen with age, I become more aware of my body, my mind & spirit. Although I have lost myself at times, it is those times which have molded the strength that I am today. .

Every time that I fell and each time that I have slipped away, I came back as a better version of me. More aware of who I truly am inside. More aware of my decisions & my actions. More aware of the direction that I want to go and who I want to be. .

You see, another year older and it sets me free...
... free to be a better version of me.

Challenge #2 this week was create a vision board or a journal. So I have had this workout planner for some quite time and it's time that I start using it. The black notebook is my journal nothing fancy but that is where I write down my goals, frustrations, and where I feel I need to make improvements. Bought some new pants for date weekend staring tomorrow really only a night but we are getting out of town and Remi gets to spend the night with his grandma and grandpa R. And I had to snap a pic cause well I feel like I'm getting a little booty, those squats and bridges are paying off :) didn't want to workout tonight but I got it done and felt so much better afterwards. And this week I received a gift and it improved my whole mood, she has been such a great support to me!! So now when I'm feeling down about the number on the scale or not wanting to workout I look at that and boom mood switches. Now if I could find some pants that fit my curves a little better I would be a happy lady.

Stress is something that most of us can say we’ve experienced at one time or another. In fact, saying “I’m stressed” has become an acceptable mantra. A mantra that turns into accepting a frenetic pace of life that is wreaking havoc on many, both physically and mentally.

Ironically, most everyone knows that people are stressed, but only a small percentage actually believe it effects them personally. Hmmmm…so is that denial or minimizing?

Since stress is such a tricky thing, let me present a different way to think about it that I learned recently when I went to a Wellness talk presented by Charleston chiropractor, Angela Dixon @newhopechirosc

Imagine a bucket – a stress bucket. We all have one. It fills up with stress but no physical symptoms show up until the bucket begins to overflow.

Oh, hello week...Let’s do this! Today, hands down was my strongest chest workout to-date. I don’t have a spotter, therefore, I have to rely on myself to get heavy weight up and off of my chest. Today, I was able to use 30# dumbbells for lying fly! Ah, balance...we all try to achieve it. I read a funny quote once that said balance = some days you eat salads and go to the gym and some days you eat cupcakes and refuse to put pants on...it's called balance. 
The word balance immediately inspires me to eliminate the word perfection and, instead, continue to add tools that contribute to my well-being. It's about doing the best I can on the days where it seems a little hard. It's about breathing through a tough situation and being okay with mediocre sometimes because that's all I can muster. It also means creating time for fun and bringing more joy into my life through relationships that fill me up and add value to my life. It means sometimes having a few extra chips & guac and not berating myself for it! Balance also means creating a schedule that is realistic, allowing me to accomplish the goals I have in all areas of my life. If things are heavily weighted on professional goals, my personal life suffers. And if I'm having too much fun, could be I need to be more rigorous in accomplishing more during the work week. 
Either way, it's a pretty constant effort to keep things in alignment. I think that's also called life!

Feeling better with squats today, getting back to where I was.  Hit 185# with the deadlifts, but called it quits on my 3rd set. Listen to your body. Occasionally my shoulder partially dislocates & so it did today. 😬 Still proud.

This winter, I've definitely embraced soup-making! One soup that's become my most favorite (don't know if it's the taste or that I get to use the hand blender, which is so much fun!) is butternut squash soup. 🧡Here's the recipe!

Ingredients:
- 8 cups of butternut squash cubed
- 1/2 cup of carrots diced
- 4 cups of vegetable broth
- 1/2 onion diced
- 4 garlic cloves pressed
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Add all ingredients to a pot and bring to a boil. Add water, if more liquid is needed. Cover and simmer for about 35-40 minutes. 
Use hand blender to mix. 
I keep it super simple, but keep an eye on it and season to your taste buds.

The health benefits of butternut squash include the mineral potassium that helps naturally boost serotonin levels and reduce fatigue. Now, don't go overboard, but adding this delicious soup to your meal plan will not only tickle your tastebuds, but should also make you smile! Enjoy!! 🧡 -
