If that is so ??? Then play it loud! Be violated. Be alive.
Seriously. Have read the book and it lays bare the research and neuroscience of how your brain processes music. A worthy read. 🤓 🎶

In #ThisIsYourBrainOnMusic musician and neuroscientist Dr. Daniel J. Levitin illuminates exactly what happens in the brain when people listen to rhythms, timbres and pitches, helping us understand why we’re so profoundly affected by music ****LINK IN BIO**** #book #bookstagram #bookish #booklover #lovebooks #amreading #nonfiction #BlinkistApp

Have you ever wondered why, or how music has the ability to move us? Whether that means physically, by getting us off of our butts to start that workout, or emotionally, causing us to burst into tears of joy or sadness when we hear a song that is meaningful to us. As it turns out, it is not as much of a mystery as we previously thought. Research shows that music is globally processed throughout the entire brain - meaning that music actually affects us at our most basic and primal levels of being. Physiologically, we are wired to entrain (a fancy word for strutting to the beat of “Staying Alive”) to the structural components embedded in music. Music is tension and release, organization and sequence; so it’s not a huge surprise that music also serves to create, trigger and regulate our emotions. Dr. Daniel Levitin, a neuroscientist who has published works on music’s connection to the brain, notes that our obsession with expectation and pattern as they relate to our emotional expression and processing, as largely volitional, and unique to the individual. In other words, we decide what music is meaningful to us based on our own identities and associations, and the meaning we assign to a specific piece, a chord progression, a melodic line. .

A Music Therapist’s work utilizes these principles within the therapeutic relationship, to inspire emotional expression, autonomy and identity, and in a looser sense, physical healing. Music Therapy interventions might be largely improvisational (i.e., songwriting, instrument and song exploration), utilizing and adapting various psychotherapy approaches, or follow a strict, evidence based protocol, such as using music as a modality for neurological rehabilitation following injury. We love our work, and we love talking about our work! To learn more about Music Therapy and our mission to spread its impact globally, please visit www.umojaglobal.org

What are you listening to this week? May I suggest my curated playlist "Grace Notes" on Spotify? I put it together as a companion to my Thanksgiving Planner (my alter ego is @smartsolutions.studio) and I've been listening to it to get into the Thanksgiving groove this week. ⠀
.⠀
It's 1.5 hours of jazz from the likes of Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Dizzie Gillespie and more. Some old favorites and a few new finds as well! I popped a link in my profile to take you right to it. Follow me on Spotify @deannemarie8. Enjoy!!⠀

Let's talk science in music for a minute. Why does your voice sound different than others? Why do different instruments play different roles? These questions precede the mystery called timbre. When a voice sounds warmer, raspier, brighter, etc., you are noticing differences in timbre! Keep tuning in to find out how we can take advantage of these nuances. Excerpt from: "This is Your Brain on Music."
