The happy hoarder theme for the beginning of February is Love❤️ibles and that means 💕💕and more 💕! Ever since I started collecting I have been drawn to paper. Who knows why people save the things they do, but I’m sure glad they did! Labels, advertisements, napkins, wrapping paper, letters, photos, and of course, cards. I love seeing other people’s writing. I think typography is a big part of what draws me to ephemera, along with illustration. So naturally Valentines are a big hit with me. Until recently I had a box (really several boxes, all over the place, and not at all organized 🙄) for each season with small items that are hard to display. Now with the addition of her ladyship (read sexy white cabinet) I can safely display all my goodies and boy does it make me happy! I have love letters of my own stashed away from when hubs was in basic training as well, but they stay in their album, protected for the future. Who knows, maybe some other thrifty friend will find them someday and keep them like I keep other people’s! What kind of Valentines Day goodies do you hoard? #happy 😊hoarder #vintagevalentines#mccoypottery#heartbasket#valentinesdoll#vintagecaketopper#valentinescards#vintagevalentinecards#vintagevalentine#curiocabinet#ephemera#vintageephemera#vintagetypography#therustytypewriter
We don’t normally do jewelry on purpose. Not on holidays, anniversaries, or birthdays. But when the hubs gave me free reign in Jared’s as a surprise for my 30th I wasn’t about to say no! Just like him, these earrings are an A+++ in my book ✨✨✨Someone asked me if they were estate jewelry, and I said, “well they will be some day!”. Bonus, I took my birthday cash to the antique mall and got two of the tiniest, most adorable jewelry caskets EVER. Just look at that yummy green velvet 😍. #besthusbandaward#jewelrycasket#vintagejewelrybox#diamondearrings#surprisejewelry#wewenttojareds#therustytypewriter
Spotlight on: Jardinieres. I spend a lot of time committing images of McCoy pieces I *don’t* have to memory. I stick my face in my collectors book at least three times a week and pore over it like a kid collecting Pokémon cards (😂). I like knowing when the lines were produced, what colors were made, and how many different sizes there are (because everything is best in multiples). This helps me know a piece when I see it in the wild. I definitely want to share my McCoy more often this year and to give a little information when I do. So, jardinieres. These two aqua are my favorite because they are OLD. 1930’s, and you can tell by the glaze. It’s just different from the 40’s/50’s aqua. The two white pieces are 1950’s and the glaze is thicker, and a tiny bit whiter than the earlier white. Clockwise from top left we have quilted diamond, basketweave, (unnamed leaf, some people call it lily), and swallows patterns. Check out my stories today for more info, comparisons, and to see the book I love so dearly! #magpiemonthly#yayformagpies#collections#mccoypottery#mccoylove#mccoyjardiniere#thingsicollect#vintagepottery#shareyourknowledge#yesihoardmccoy#onlyaquaandwhiteallowed#exceptthatpurpleone#therustytypewriter
The best thing about being absolutely unapologetic about what you love is that eventually you start receiving gifts that people know you’ll cherish. These embroidered silk souvenirs are from France, picked up in 1918 by my husband’s great-grandfather during WWI. They’ve been held onto by his granddaughter for years and she shared them with us a while back. I was flabbergasted to receive them as a present at my party last night, and now I’ll cherish them as a piece of family history for many years to come. Also, check out my stories for the fabulous mahogany curio cabinet gifted to me by my Aunt! #frenchsilk#wwi#vintagefrenchembroidery#vintagesouvenir#frenchembroidery#warsouvenir#familyheirloom#therustytypewriter
It’s Monday which means I’ve spent my morning chopping up squid and feeding sharks. So naturally I smell of fish (just a bit) which means my dog can’t get enough of me 😂. This little guy is a tad more polite (should we call him Tad?) and refrains from licking my fingers nonstop. His colors make him a perfect addition to my Valentine’s Day display. Make sure you swipe to see his chicken butt 😳 where some of the “real fur” has worn down.
Also PSA: next Monday is the first #magpiemonthly if you haven’t heard. Hosted by @starry_sky_farm and @ourgentlemadness post on the first Monday of the month. So somebody remind me to post lol 🤦🏼♀️. #originalfurtoys#furtoydogs#miniaturedogtoys#valentinedog#vintagefurtoy#vintagetoys#germantoy#vintagegermantoy#therustytypewriter
