“The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman” — Anne Helen Petersen
In 10 beautifully drafted chapters, Petersen explains how we, as women, still have to fight to own the narratives of our lives.
The author lays out how women are bound by a patriarchal society and a traditionally misogynistic media and constantly find ourselves in need to reclaim our own sexuality, body, age, ambition, intellect and power.
Petersen’s pen(wo)manship is as satisfying as unnerving are the truths she unearths.
Super worthwhile read.

Any hey 👋🏾 to @jennreadsstuff. Thanks for tagging me in the #7bookishsins tag ~ here are my responses:
🐛Gluttony ~ a book you devoured. I recently finished So The Path Does Not Die by Pede Hollist. Gobbled this down in one sitting as I found the storytelling, pace, characters and plot so enthralling. A real gem of a book. 🐛Greed ~ a book you won't lend out. I am terrible...always happy to recommend or buy books for people but I very rarely lend out my own collection...🙈
🐛Sloth ~ a book that's been sitting on your shelf unread. Dear lord so many...but the one that comes immediately to mind is The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. 🐛Lust ~ favourite book series. I don't tend to read series. The last one would have been the No. 1 Ladies Detectives series many, many years ago. 🐛 Envy ~ a book you'd like to live in. Happy in Londinium!
🐛Wrath ~ disappointing book. New Boy by Tracey Chevalier which I read earlier in the year. This book is a modern retelling of Shakespeare's Othello. It got dragged in my review...🙊
🐛Pride ~ prettiest book you own. So many! I love a good book cover. I think this latest haul has some very pretty hardcover designs. I love the Stay With Me cover & my Weary Blues by Langston Hughes vintage cover. The latest Penguin hardcover collection of F Scott Fitzgerald works are lovely plus I'm looking forward to owning artist Toyin Ojih Odutola's cover of Black No More by George Schuyler when this is released early next year. //
