"Jerry from Mulberry Street, Philadelphia, PA." Jerry and his wife Sybill couldn’t deal with the struggle of transporting Jerry to and from the car for Dialysis and had so much trouble bathing him. We created a new driveway so he drive directly into the property and roll directly into his entrance. We created a brand-new bedroom and bathroom. Installed a 20’x50’ asphalt driveway from the street and poured a new concrete sidewalk. Added a separate door entrance that leads directly into his bedroom and bathroom to be easily accessible for him with a pocket door and a roll-in shower so he could easily gain access and he can be rolled directly into the shower. We fully equipped the bathroom with all the necessary ADA Compliant equipment such as: grab bars; a built in shower bench, elevated toilet and a handheld shower assembly.
Today is #WorldWaterDay 💦 And it's true that there is lots to be worrying about and by 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in the sea. But it's not enough to worry about it while we carry on living our lives the same way as we did before. Every one of us needs to change because it's up to all of us to make a difference. One of my favourite success stories comes from Mustique where I went last year to visit their pioneering coral nurseries. These restore endangered coral species and form a vital habitat for marine wildlife! Link in bio 🍃

🇩🇪👇🏼 in the comment section- Today something different than food for once 😛. The last few days I was thinking how and in what kind of ways I can make a difference on this 🌏? Or in other words what can I do for myself and others to not only become a better human being, but also to influence others to make this world a better place. I came up with the following:
- support local businesses - buy local - buy organic - buy seasonal
- reduce buying exotic & overseas fruits & veggies
- minimize food waste
- minimize plastic waste
- minimize water use - minimize electricity use
- minimize consumerism
Some of those things I am already implying on my daily life, others I will have to work on and new ones will come along as well. Nobody is perfect and I am sure I will still sometimes make an exception to the above mentioned points, but at least to be conscious about those things is already a really nice thing. I guess I also will be sharing some tips on how to live by those rules in the future.
Now it‘s your turn, how do you want to make a difference on this planet?
Would you like me to write a blog post on this, sharing some tips?

Fair Trade Principle #6 : Support Safe and Empowering Working Conditions that are free of discrimination and forced labor. .
Healthy workplaces empower producers to participate in decision-making.
Do you remember the collapse of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh in 2013? On April 24, 2013 a garment factory with over 5,000 employees collapsed killing almost 1,200 people. It is considered the deadliest garment-factory accident in history, as well as the deadliest accidental structural failure in modern human history.
"Officials said soon after the collapse that numerous construction regulations had been violated.
Abdul Halim, an official with Savar’s engineering department, said the owner of Rana Plaza was originally allowed to construct a five-story building but added another three stories illegally.
Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir has said the building violated construction codes and that “the culprits would be punished.”
The disaster is the worst ever for Bangladesh’s booming and powerful garment industry, surpassing a fire ...that killed 112 people and brought widespread pledges to improve the country’s worker-safety standards.
Instead, very little has changed in Bangladesh, where wages, among the lowest in the world, have made it a magnet for numerous global brands." .
Fair trade brings changes to places where cheap labor can lead to deadly consequences for many workers all over the world.
As I started exploring a less wasteful way to produce our clothes for the brand, I also started exploring a less wasteful way of living at home.
It isn’t always possible but we try to do what we can and we are definitely much more conscious of our consumption and waste as a family. We are nowhere near zero waste (yet) but we are trying to minimize our waste as much as possible.
We now use jars and wax wraps for food storage, metal straws, reusable shopping bags, bamboo toilet paper, reusable laundry eggs, soap and shampoo bars, reusable water bottles etc. We also compost all of our foodwaste and most of our paper and cardboard waste. 💪💪💪
All little things but it all adds up, right ?! What about you, have you and your family made any changes to reduce your environmental impact recently ?
Please share below, so we can give you a big hi-5 ✋ 💚💚💚

The @Worldeconomicforum shared this video two days ago. Please get a look at it. It shows in which situation we all are regarding the ice melting and climate change. The chances are high that a lot of people are missing this information as they did for the drought and water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa. This lack of information, which doesn't appear in the news, participate to the fact that a lot of people continue their life as usual with the same consumption level (food, transport, energy).
We also need to accelerate all actions that are pro-environment / Climate friendly: investments in renewable energies, stopping all projects with fossil fuel (which are still continuing more than ever at a high scale), implementing the carbon tax in 2018 in every country.
Several countries are trying to stop the effects of climate change and the ice melting, Switzerland, Italy and Germany. It means that we have a short time to act as much as we can to reverse climate change. It may be our last chance and it's more than serious 🌍
The scientists in Sweden confirmed that we will not be able to fulfill the Paris Agreement in time and keep the global warming under 2 degrees Celsius before 2030 (@Svt). With regards to this information, the United Nations @Unfccc launched a call for participation to the next conference (at the end of the year) to companies, organisations, experts but also for a speaker from the civil society to help urgently with solutions (see on their homepage).
Time to focus on solutions 🌍🌿
What are your thoughts? What is the most urgent to do? Both on a personal and political level?

Reusable bags are one of the easiest ways to reduce your waste, and one of the first swaps I made.
Today was the first time I used these mesh bags for bulk! Surprising, right? Usually I use them for produce and bring my jars to the co-op the bulk. But I was running low on time and took these to Whole Foods on my break today, and it went surprisingly smooth! The cashiers even asked where I got the bags and said it was such a good idea to use them instead of plastic (yay for spreading the idea!!) I was a little hesitant because I was buying some things that are kind of small (rice, sesame seeds) but the bags held them just fine. The oats were a little dusty… But I will put them in a container when I get home.
I also had a shopping list in my phone so I just wrote the PLUs in that and told them to the cashier. I previously felt word about this, but the cashier thanked me for writing them down. Feeling good about this! Doing things that are out of the norm gets easier every time, and it made me so happy to spread the idea! .
Celebrating the International Sweet Potato Week 2018 with a toast. But mind you, this is not just any toast - it is #sweetpotato toast and it’s not only delicious, but also good for your health due to high content of vitamins A and C. 👩🏻🍳So here’s my recipe for a delicious #seewtpotatotoast :
- slice the sweet potato lengthwise in 1/4 inch slices and place on a baking sheet. Season with sea salt, pepper and fresh thyme. Add a splash of olive oil and bake at 180C for about 15 minutes. Leave to cool.
- top with creme fraiche, steamed asparagus, lemon zest and black pepper
