What started as a raging Saturday night in my house (Disney Monopoly anyone?! 👍🏼😀) soon spiralled down when my poor body finally reacted to the huge amounts of high FODMAP foods I ate yesterday.
I am normally pretty careful about what I eat, but occasionally I like to go out with friends and try not to worry about it. I well and truly overdid it... usually my initial gut reactions (bloating) start about 6-7 hours after I’ve eaten. By 10pm last night I was crying in bed, unable to move from laying on my stomach as the bloating was so bad it was pressing on nerves and I had shooting pains all the way up into my right shoulder. I finally fell asleep, only to be woken again a few hours later with more stomach pains.
A lot of people don’t talk about IBS because it essentially involves talking about poo. 💩 Others don’t even believe that it is a real thing, and will not entertain the idea that food can have such a drastic effect on someone’s body. 🤦🏻♀️ But it really can dictate how you conduct your daily life, and decrease your quality of life. I hope the conversation and awareness increases to help myself and others manage.
