What do you say when you’re face to face with a man who was healed of cancer twice, has had three wives, worked in a sawmill growing up, spent 9 months in a wheel chair, and is determined to never give up on moving forward. At 71 years old, he has a huge heart to use what little he has to take care of others. He has offered his spare bed and couch to the homeless time and time again. And I have been honored to be one of the many brought in from the streets by this man. “Clyde, what’s God teaching you lately?” With a long pause and glistening eyes he responded, “To treat others better than I was treated... all my life they told me ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that.’ So I set out to prove them wrong.” He continued, “I didn’t have much schooling, but I remember a time I asked a question in class, and the teacher called me an idiot in front of everyone.” He said it stuck with him his whole life and he won’t ever forget it. “We were broke growing up. We had a roof over our head but it leaked. It didn’t need fixin’ in the sunshine, and you couldn’t fix it in the rain.” (he’s a jokester by nature, so at this point he’s cracking himself up). I asked him what he wanted to do when he grows up and with no hesitation he said, “Exactly what I’m doing right now... I pray God will give me a bigger house so I can take in more people.” You’re a legend, Clyde.
I just spent 4 days at a Women’s Reflective Writing Retreat. Women came from all over the country for this event at the Siena Retreat Center. What a life changing, empowering, and spiritual experience. So much to think about....
This beautiful day. The fantastic Tower Bridge. The history. The culture. The accents. The smell of the overpriced, but incredibly enticing caramelized peanuts being roasted by the vendors at every corner. I’m overwhelmed to actually be here! It all feels so magical! 😍 #thankful#overwhelmed#sojourn#sojournon#thehardystakeonlondon
SOJOURN | Stunning sun sets over the water in WA yesterday evening. Mandurah is about 45 minutes south of Perth and features a string of canals that are largely privately accessed - except for parts like this pretty spot where we mingled over wines with residents and members of Mariners Cove last night. See my featured story for the breakfast views from the same place and the best way to get there! 🚣🏼♂️ This afternoon I’m heading back up to Perth for the evening before returning to Melbs tomorrow.
