What do you get when you combine Sonic and Contra? Behold, Super Turrican for the SNES!
2017: Super Turrican surprisingly popped up on our local marketplace. @brandontyw Thanks! Played in 1994 on those Super Famicom Magic Drive, none of us knew what the box and label (which spotted a mabok Stryfe-lookalike) will look like. It was featured on SuperPlay mag 1993 where Factor 5 Julian Eggebrecht was interviewed.
My take: you are f-overpowered bastard, with bosses a joke to handle and power-ups given out like candy. Heck, if you can’t shoot them, you can stomp on them Mario-style, or lay bombs while rolling on the ground like in Metroid. Challenges are mostly on the platform jumping portion especially on the last level, but shouldn’t pose too much problems.
Good music, but I feel some tracks don’t really fit the stages’ atmosphere. Still, it’s well-composed and worth a listen.
Good-valued action gaming and worth a run if you love shooters.
Did you know: At 4megs, Super Turrican is one of the smallest games on the SNES, same as Mario World.
