It’s never too early to start talking about colleges! This display connects to weekly morning announcements featuring the universities on our wall. Huge shoutout to @txcounselor_lopez for the email list for over 100 University email addresses ♥️ This is just half of the pennants I’ve received; the others will be hung up at my 2nd school.

We got one of the first copies of this ever printed. Fresh of the press for 2018 and foreword by our very own Dr. Erin Mason! Thanks mom! Can’t wait to get it signed 😊 #schoolcounseling#coopergrowingup#asca
This game has been a hit all year (even my 5th graders ask to play!) Used at the end of class as a way to learn about students, identify emotions, practice I-statements, and reinforce listening skills. “What’s your emoji today?” They identify their emoji and respond by using an I-statement...”I feel ________ because ____________.” And then they choose the next person!! So simple, but so effective. #schoolcounseling#elementarycounselor
“Wayfinder’s summer training proved to be the most positively transformative training program I have ever undertaken as an educator. My entire outlook in arenas of my own life changed. The training reinforced my view that not only can we guide and support students to live meaningful lives, we can also affect so many more people through the projects and movements they create.”
— Brent Kerehona, Cabramatta High School, Australia, pictured here at @projectwayfinder’s training last summer🔆

Diffusing Motivate (Encouraging Blend) today at work! The blend of citrus, mint and herbs gives a nice aroma and it helps promote feelings of confidence, courage and belief. Many of my students struggle with achieving a growth mindset and I love using this oil to help support them. Plus, I can get way more done in the day because I am receiving the benefits as well!
If you are interested in learning more about essential oils please direct message me or go to my website in bio!
I can’t get this out of my mind. Counseling these elementary students, hearing their lives, and empathizing with their situations on a daily basis gives a whole new view of these events. We all (including me) send our kids to school, hoping they come home safe. We do lockdown drills in the schools but, what if the person knows the drills? The ex-student in Florida knew to pull the fire alarm, knew the procedures, and knew how to exit without being detected. Yes, we need more mental health professionals on campus, yes we need to revisit our gun laws, but we also need to make sure our schools are safe. End of rant. #parkland#marjorystonemandouglas#mentalhealth#schoolcounseling
I know, I know. Money is AWESOME! Hey, I love it too. But do you know what I love even more than money? What’s even better than having a huge bank account? People. HUMAN BEINGS. And, personally, I especially love kids. So much so that I have dedicated my life to working in schools to help them. And I’ve been hearing from you that the work I’m doing isn’t working. School shootings are continuing to happen because my work in the schools and mental healthcare aren’t working. I hear you and I am constantly trying new approaches, getting my hands on all the new research I can and trying to SEE all my students and figure them out and be there for them. But do you know how you can help? GET RID OF THE GUNS. Assault rifles, if I only get to choose one type. Let’s just take them out of the equation and see what happens. Let’s work on this together. I know the money won’t be as free flowing but maybe preserving the lives of innocent children will somehow make up for it. Don’t worry I’ll be contacting you a ton about this so just in case it slips your mind, I’ll be sure to remind you.
Thanks in advance,
Mrs. M- school counselor, mom, American, human being

💓💓💓Today some of my 5th graders completed a “pat on the back” activity. We discussed random act of kindness week and how kindness is like a boomerang (there is a really amazing YouTube video on the concept!!) the students gave each other a “pat on the back” and wrote compliments on the paper hand taped to their backs. Once time was up it was so fun watching the students read positive compliments about themselves. Their faces lit right up and we had an amazing discussion💓💓💓! #schoolcounselor#kindness#empathy#schoolcounseling#amazingkids#bighearts
