March in New England...
It can be such a fickle month: Thawing temperatures followed by record breaking snowfalls. With only hours left to go until spring officially arrives, it feels more like the middle of January outside than anything else. For most New Englanders, enough is enough, and it's time for spring flowers and Red Sox games on TV. But for some folks like me who enjoy winter sports, we can't get enough of it, and I was thankful to have arrived back here in Bethel just in time for the first of two major snowstorms.
Beyond my love for skiing, though, I've always enjoyed winter from a photography point of view, and how a blanket of fresh snow makes the mountain villages look like something out of a John Sloane calendar. Old colonial farmhouses full of character with their sturdy red barns stand out against the grey and snowy afternoon; a quintessential winter scene.
So shovel off the porch, break out the snowshoes or skis and pass the time away until warmer days arrive. It's just another winter day in New England...
