#Regram #RG @unitednations: When the eggs of olive ridley turtles hatch in Sindhudurg, #India, it is one of the local fishermen who carefully collects them from under the sand and releases them into the sea. There are 63 million people living on the country's coastline, and most of them work in fishing, tourism, and other areas directly related to nature. If biodiversity is not protected, the ecosystem becomes unbalanced. India is the second-largest producer of fish in the world. Growing demand on🐠 supplies, coupled with destructive fishing practices, was threatening the area, which is one of 11 ecologically critical habitats in the country. With support from #UNDP, the #UnitedNationsDevelopment Programme, fishing communities are taking the lead to protect life under water, creating sustainable livelihoods and preserving the biodiversity around them.In just two years, the number of olive ridley 🐢 nesting areas protected by villagers increased five-fold. THE BUBBLE BARRIER!! By Econets Australia
What is the bubble barrier and how does it work I hear you asking.... Bubble barrier curtains or bubble tubing has been proven to offer protection for marine mammals, marine environments, and activities undertaken within the ocean or marinas. The operating principle of a curtain of bubbles consists in creating a wall more or less dense, a flexible bubble barrier that rises continuously from the bottom of the water to the surface.
APPLICATIONS FOR BUBBLE CURTAIN * Silt barrier to contain sediments in suspension * Motion control and direction of floating debris * Protection marine mammals from offshore oil platforms and continuous operation vibration and noise * Containing oil spills within a given area * Fish guiding & containment systems in waterways such as rivers * Mitigate damage to marine environments noise and and effect of blasting in mining, drilling, under water pile driving

Wow Regrann from @sea_legacy - Photo by @shawnheinrichs // Contrary to its name, whale sharks are not whales! They are the world’s largest fish - growing as long as 60 feet. Despite their massive size, whale sharks are the “gentle giants” of the ocean. Unlike their other shark relatives that are meat-eaters, these giants are filter feeders. Because of its size, slowness, long development time, and high value on international markets, the species is inherently vulnerable to intentional fishing and the illegal wildlife trade. Scooter race anyone? Another example of an artificial reef. This one's not the most environmentally friendly but reefs like this definitely make for some interesting shots and are heaps of fun to dive! This scooter will look awesome in 50 years when it's totally covered in coral 🤣 follow @marine_magic_ for more!!!

Scooter race anyone? Another example of an artificial reef. This one's not the most environmentally friendly but reefs like this definitely make for some interesting shots and are heaps of fun to dive! This scooter will look awesome in 50 years when it's totally covered in coral 🤣 follow @marine_magic_ for more!!! . . . . . . #Ocean  #Underwater  #GoPro  #Fish  #Sharks  #SaveSharks  #ApexPredator  #Diving  #Freedive  #Freediving  #Apnea  #Nature  #Biology  #Ecology  #Dive  #underwaterPhotography  #Summer  #Sustainability  #Environmental  #MarineReserve  #SaveOurOcean  #Savethereef  #Take3ForTheSea   #Snorkeling  #MarineLife  #Spearfishing  #SaveTheOcean

When the eggs of olive ridley turtles hatch in Sindhudurg, #India, it is one of the local fishermen who carefully collects them from under the sand and releases them into the sea.

There are 63 million people living on the country's coastline, and most of them work in fishing, tourism, and other areas directly related to nature. If biodiversity is not protected, the ecosystem becomes unbalanced.

India is the second-largest producer of fish in the world. Growing demand on 🐠 supplies, coupled with destructive fishing practices, was threatening the area, which is one of 11 ecologically critical habitats in the country.

With support from #UNDP, the #UnitedNations Development Programme, fishing communities are taking the lead to protect life under water, creating sustainable livelihoods and preserving the biodiversity around them.

In just two years, the number of olive ridley 🐢 nesting areas protected by villagers increased five-fold.

Well, ended up picking about 1000 pieces of plastic yesterday instead f the 200 promised. Does that mean i'll soon have 1000 #igfollowers ?! 😂
Lots of it was the yucky stuff, pulled from the mud between the mangrove roots. Also, it looks like crabs love eating plastic because it seems they pull it into their holes. Well, they pull it in, i pull it out ... 😕 But it makes me wonder about what goes into the bodies of those who consume seafood.
@peopleplanetplastictv asked me to make a hand out of my 200 pieces, but seeing it is all this sh$t, i pulled out just 6 pieces, and one is even natural.
Voilà, #GiveSeaLifeAHand

Stony #corals occur in all of our oceans and have formed the most #coralreefs by secreting calcium carbonate for 500 million years. Today, the conservation status of a lot of #hardcorals like this Seriatopora caliendrum is #nearthreatened or #endangered and they are probably passing the point of no return before 2040 - because of the ongoing warming period, the acidification of the water and other threats.🌏

Banded Sea Krait / Banded Sea Snake.
Facts : *flat tail which gives them a paddle-like effect when swimming. * diet: eels and small fish. they are also preyed by sharks and birds. *its venom is so lethal -10x more powerful than the rattle snake but it's usually harmless unless provoked. It can cause paralysis, convulsions, cardiac failure and death. *they can go back to their breeding grounds to mate often migrating long distances and like sea turtles, they can return to the same beach to digest ,rest or lay eggs.
They are beautiful creatures so whatever you do just glide with them and appreciate from a distance. Never threaten them. Loc: Dauin 📷 Me #oceannerd #natureporn

Meet the Co-Founder of Serva Aqua:
Nathan Le Duc was born into a military family that moved often. He began writing books and speeches about a "better world" when he was only six years old. He has been heavily involved in restorative juvenile criminal justice programs, as well as local service projects ranging from medical expense relief to caring for the mentally ill. He recently returned from a religious service mission in Europe, where he served communities and people from all different walks of life. Nathan loves the outdoors, hiking, sailing, camping, and most importantly, our oceans. He often says that our hope must change our action. Serva Aqua is his way of giving back to what he loves and he is 100% committed to help saving our oceans! .
