Marrakesh ( مراكش ), Morocco.
The Ramparts. The ramparts stretch for 19 kilometres (12 mi) around the medina of the city. They were built in the 12th century, stand up to 19 feet (5.8 m) high, and have 20 gates and 200 towers. -
Marrakesh was founded in 1062, although the region has been inhabited by Berber farmers since Neolithic times. Nicknamed "Red City" or "Ochre City" due to the red sandstone used to construct various buildings and the walls of the city (1122–1123), Marrakesh grew rapidly and established itself as a cultural, religious, and trading centre.
In 1985, UNESCO declared the old town area of Marrakesh a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
