Look closely. .
I have been waiting years for this to happen. This is a rare phenomenon known as a Brocken Spectre. What you're seeing here is a magnified shadow of myself, cast upon the clouds opposite of the sun. The rainbow halo around my head is known as a Glory. Everything needed to line up just right for this to happen. Words can't even describe how amazing it was. It was a pretty special moment.
If you find yourself in need of a good laugh, hike with me in the winter and watch me try to navigate icy sections of the trail. It was still a blast to revisit this fire tower yesterday, even with minor ice-induced heart attacks!
Before reaching the summit there was a stretch of steep terrain coated with ice. Matt and I worked as a team to get the dogs safely up and down this tricky section. Matt would go first and Ariel would stay by my side until I gave her a command to go to him. We would tell her ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘sit’ and ‘slow’ depending on what we needed her to do to navigate the ice. (And she did so like a champ!)
I’m so proud of how well we all work together and it makes me so happy to see how much Ariel trusts both Matt and I! I guess that just further proves he’s a keeper!
