It was a huge privilege to attend the UK premiere of The Rape of Recy Taylor on Thursday night with @unwomen. A moving and hard-hitting film about an extremely brave woman who spoke out but never received justice. One to watch. And fantastic to hear the panel and their take on it afterwards too: the film’s Director Nancy Buirski, Baroness Manzoor, Yomi Adegoke, and Maxine Mawhinney.
Recy was by no means alone in her horrific experience, and the film is a stark reminder that women all over the world still suffer terrible abuse and injustice today. Many don’t have the opportunity to speak up, or are fearful for their lives so cannot. And those who do, often aren’t heard or really listened to. Work like this is so important in reminding those of us who can to stand up and speak up for those who can’t.
Thank you so much @unofficialprincessjasmine for inviting me.
