My ride home looks like this Ying and yang image 🌏🌘The beautifully dark and cloudy unknown history of Wadjemup (Rottnest Island) This land has a very intense energy and the more I kept getting goosebumps and feeling my heart sink the more inquisitive I got about what has unfolded on this sacred land now "holiday destination", this park I live across from is the Noogah memorial we're hundreds of aboriginal men were found dead.
Tentland was the camping area on Rottnest; the place where families and teenagers pitched their tents, had a few drinks, and threw some sausages on the barbeque.
What campers dont know was that they were sleeping on the unmarked graves of at least 373 Aboriginal men. It's the largest deaths in custody site in Australia and the largest known burial ground of Aboriginal people.
The first boat arrived at Wadjemup in July 1838, with six prisoners on board. By the 1880s, more men were arriving at Rottnest Island than ever before and conditions were at their worst. Overcrowding peaked and disease was rife. There were no toilets, no beds and the damp floors were made of dirt.
The cells were filthy and freezing cold in the winter. Disease spread rapidly — mostly measles and influenza — People were hung and tortured for "theft"
Today Rottnest Island, off Fremantle, is a popular holiday spot, but few realise the island's dark past as a prison for Indigenous men.

And so the puzzle falls together now, the feeling I get here is like nothing I have experienced, I honour and respect the story of each soul lost here on this land. ❤🌹❤
Today @perth_ice_cream_snob paid visit to personal favourite @pietrogelateria which came on the scene last year. Particular highlights include, fantastic coffee, excellent service and of course delicious gelato and sorbet. Mr and Mrs @perth_ice_cream_snob had the coffee and salted caramel and the passion fruit sorbet. Both were fantastic without the sweetness of their poor cousin across the street baskin robins. @pietrogelateria is perfect if you’re vegan, gluten/diary intolerant and if you like flavours that are a little different. We gave it 4 Macca’s soft serves 🍦 out of 5.
Next time that you’re in Victoria Park in the words of Molly do yourself a favour and check it out. #perth#perthisok 👌 #perthisok#perthismorethanok#wa#icecream#gelato#vegan
