Spring is being a real tease right now ⛅️ Last week was sunny and warm while this week has been cloudy and wet. What the heck spring?! Doing a sort of rain dance by sketching out my landscaping ideas in hopes that it brings back the sun 💃🏼 🙏🏻 Sitting outside sipping on mojitos with mint straight from my garden sounds like heaven right now.
03.17.18 Neighborhood #flowerwalk . Late winter / early spring magnolia bloom is a favorite moment in time. The energy of the all the plants waking up after long winter’s nap is perceptible, you can almost hear the rush of sap running through their veins and the creaking sound of stretching branches. It’s magic. ✨
UPDATE: The volunteer certifier for the Backyard Habitat Program from Audubon Society of Portland is coming over at 1pm PST to determine whether I achieved silver, gold or platinum habitat status. This was fast! Although I was hoping to have a week or two, I thought “What could be happy news I can share today?” My goal is platinum, but I’ll be happy with gold. [I had one curious person say he wouldn’t be able to do this because he’s better with computers than plants. Just for fun, I’ll rewrite my description so even if you’re a 404 non-gardening tech person, you can appreciate 😉] It took 3.5 years to reprogram the soil, delete invasive plants, upload new food and water sources for migratory animals, and beta testing (and sometimes failing!) different plants in different areas.
You guys. I wore SHORTS and a TANK TOP today for the first time in 4 months! Soaked up the sunshine ☀️ and blue skies gardening all day. I’m planning some big updates to our tiny yard but for now I got a head start on spring and planted some colorful flowers and bulbs 🌷🌻 Can’t for everything to pop up!
Dug up some veggies in the garden. Then weeded, turned the soil over by hand, added a cubic pallet of home made compost to the top to be mixed in later, and replanted some leeks and onions. I probably got sunburned. #pdx#portland#gardening#pdxgarden
Hoping to get my order placed today. Got about 20 in my cart now begins the winnowing 😭😂 Trying to fill in the shades of roses I don’t already have, and still save lots of space for dahlias and more bulbs
Garden back in full swing 🌿beets, basil, sage, oregano, chives, lavender, daffodils. Not pictured: rosemary, peppermint, strawberry plant, tulips, and some onion + potatoes growing from kitchen scraps 🌾#urbangarden#smallspacegardening#pdxgarden
