Brother (or Aniki mon frère) : Brother is a 2000 American-British-Japanese film starring, written, directed, and edited by Takeshi Kitano. Yamamoto (Takeshi Kitano) is a brutal and experienced Yakuza enforcer whose boss was killed and whose clan was defeated in a criminal war with a rival family. Surviving clan members have few options: either to join the winners, reconciling with shame and distrust, or to die by committing seppuku. Yamamoto, however, decides to escape to Los Angeles along with his associate Kato (Susumu Terajima). There he finds his estranged half-brother Ken (Claude Maki), who runs a small-time drug business together with his local African-American friends. At the first meeting, Yamamoto badly hurts one of them, Denny (Omar Epps), for an attempt to fraud him. Later, Denny becomes one of the Yamamoto's closest friends and associates. #brother#anikimonfrere#takeshikitano#omarepps
- HIGHER LEARNING, (1995) Dir: JOHN SINGLETON :
Mr. Williams: The more you learn about this system,
the more upset you get.
Professor: Oh, my dear Mr. Williams.
Professor: Information is power.
Professor: If you don't have the information,
one cannot seize power. :
Professor: You need to think about
becoming mentally competitive.
Professor: Being black does not free you
from being a responsible individual.
Mr. Williams: But being a responsible individual
don't free you from being black.
Mr. White: -That's right.
Professor: -Poor, misguided soul. :
Professor: You have yet to learn
the rules of this game.
Mr. White: -He will.
Mr. Williams: -I don't want to.
Mr. Williams: See, I'm smart enough to know
it's not my game to play.
Mr. Williams: I'm just a pawn like everybody else.
Professor: Used intelligently, a pawn can create
a checkmate, Mr. Williams.
Professor: Or become a very
powerful player himself. :
Professor: Don't you understand?
This is all a game. All of this.
Professor: Like basketball, football,
Mr. Big-Time Track Star, a game.
Professor: You play it to win.
Professor: Because in the real world, no one wants
to hear excuses or empty rhetoric.
Professor: They want to know
if you have a plan.
Professor: Mr. Williams, Mr. White,
Mr. White: All right.
