A bit of a reprofile on this one before I start work in the bevels. Flattened out the transition from the spine to the tip, and a change of shape to the butt of the handle to something a bit more standard. 215mm edge, 60mm high at the heel. O1 steel and will probably get a nice bit of wood for the handle out of my collection. This one will live as a beater in my kitchen while I trial how it goes. Intending on a few of these in AEB-L later in the year :)
This is what we ended up with! Extremely happy with the result considering my old milling machine!! This will be a handy tool for the workshop! Thank you so much to @tormach for creating such an amazing tool! Loving my TTS Super Fly!
If anyone is interested in feeds and speeds I was running the mill at about 325RPM with a roughing depth of cut of 0.5mm at 30mm/min and finishing depth of cut of 0.3mn at 25mm/min
Milling a piece of rail road steel today! How awesome is that??? The idea is that I'll have a small anvil type work face so that I can create a hammered finish on some of our knives using a ball peen hammer.
Credit goes to John from @saundersmachineworks who did pretty much the same thing with his friend. His video was a great starting place in figuring out how to get this done! Thanks John!
Also, I used the #tormach superfly with the steel cutting insert which is working great!
