I get asked a lot, what's better brown rice or white rice? 🤷🏼♀️
Well brown rice is higher in fibre and B vitamins and minerals such as magnesium, it has a nuttier flavour and takes longer to cook. .
However, a long grain white rice such as Basmati or Clever/Doongara has a lower GI (glycaemic index) compared to brown and white Jasmine, sticky or sushi rice. Meaning basmati rice may be a better option if you're looking to manage your blood sugar levels 🍚

Starbucks Grande Americano with an inch of steamed heavy cream and 3 pumps SF Vanilla Syrup with 3 pumps SF Cinnamon Dolce Syrup.
When I got in to work I then added 2 tbs @nestednaturals powdered C8 MCT oil and 1 scoop @sportsresearch collagen to give me a Friday boost!
One thing I've taken for granted is the work/information I found out when I started the keto way of eating (3 years in July) and that I hadn't passed on especially for people relatively new, to you my IG family, now being on maintenance and I've relaxed a few things.
Now while the sugar free syrups contain sucralose (Splenda) to sweeten, Starbucks SF Vanilla Syrup contains maltodextrin.
What the heck is that?
It's a polysaccharide (a chain of D-glucose units). It is often found in weight gainer protein mixes. 🤔 It is quickly ingested and affects blood sugar. (I tested this out on myself with blood glucose and ketone tests to see how my body responds. While I wasn't kicked out of keto it decreased and blood sugar did spike for me.)
With sugar being 100 on the glycemic index, maltodextrin can range from 85 to 110 depending on the length of the chain. It's produced from starch from corn.
With it it's normally found as a white powder and is seen as a substrate (carrier) for many things.
In the SB sugar free vanilla syrup, it's about the 4th ingredient. (after natural & artificial flavour) Sure it's in small amounts but for some it's affects them more than others. If you're diabetic, definitely avoid.
If you're stalling or having problems and use this, you may want look a little closer.
Note: in Canada SB only has Vanilla & Cinnamon Dolce syrup (which doesn't contain maltodextrin) be sure check the ingredients of others.
Again, it's up to you decide what's right and what works for you.
Still thinking about this kale & avo sandwich from @abcvnyc 🤩 it’s a great byo lunch idea 💡 👉toss kale in lemon juice, olive oil, salt & pepper (or marinate ahead of time)
👉add cucumbers, avocado & pesto (I like @gothamgreens vegan pesto)
The kale just gets better as it marinates so you can make it that morning and by lunchtime it will be ready to go. Or toss the kale at the beginning of the week for a super quick throw-together lunch!

Roasted zoodles bolognese with grated parmesan and red pepper flakes really hit the spot this chilly spring week. For a quick meat sauce I sauté ground lean beef or turkey with onions and garlic and then I add @raoshomemade or @lidiabastianich basil tomato sauce.

Cheese and Basil🌱
1 cup raw unsalted cashews (soaked for 4 hours or overnight, and strained)
1/4 filtered water, plus more if needed
1/4 cup coconut amino acids
2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp ground cumin
hefty pinch of sea salt
Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender. Voila! You got yourself a vegan cheese. 🌱

Lunch yesterday could not have been more perfect 😍 Making big batches of homemade seasoning mixes saves so much time in the kitchen... I whipped up my Mexican Riced Cauliflower (recipe is on the website) with some frozen riced cauliflower and taco seasoning I had made a few weeks ago 🙌 and then topped with scrambled eggs and leftover sweet potatoes and @twrgrassfedbeef sausages 👍

RECIPE BELOW // This is a great all-purpose GREEN CURRY sauce to have on hand to incorporate into meals during the week. Eat with roasted chicken, baked fish, or thin it to make a curry soup with some bone broth. I’ve even thinned it with olive oil to make it into a salad dressing!⠀
A couple notes — If you can’t get your hands on fresh turmeric, substitute with 2 teaspoons of the dried variety (and in both cases, be warned that turmeric will stain everything yellow!). For those of you avoiding FODMAPs, it is possible to make this without garlic and onions. I’d just double the ginger for a little more kick.⠀
🌿2 tbsp coconut oil⠀
🌿½ large yellow onion, chopped⠀
🌿3-4 stalks lemongrass, exterior removed and chopped⠀
🌿1½ tbsp minced fresh ginger⠀
🌿1½ tbsp minced fresh turmeric⠀
🌿3 cloves garlic, minced⠀
🌿1 bunch cilantro, ⅔ cup including stem ends roughly chopped and the tops reserved⠀
🌿1 can coconut milk (either thickener-free or homemade)⠀
🌿½ tsp sea salt⠀
🌿2 limes, juiced⠀
👉🏻Heat the coconut oil in the bottom of a skillet or heavy-bottomed pot on medium-high heat. When the fat has melted and the pan is hot, add the onions and sauté for 7 minutes, until translucent, stirring occasionally.⠀
👉🏻Add the lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, and cilantro (2/3 of the bunch including the stem ends) to the pan and cook for 3 minutes, stirring.⠀
👉🏻Add the coconut milk and sea salt, turn down to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes.⠀
👉🏻Turn off the heat and set aside for a few minutes to cool.⠀
👉🏻When the mixture is cool enough to handle, add the lime juice and transfer to a blender. Blend on high until well incorporated, for 60 seconds or so.⠀
👉🏻Add salt to taste and serve with protein of your choice garnished with remaining cilantro leaves.⠀

Usually I’m hesitant about the whole juicing thing because why not just eat the actual piece of fruit/veg? BUT I will say this is such a satisfying drink right now after surgery. I’m able to get in lots of fresh fruits and veggies that I definitely wouldn’t be able to eat right now. And it’s a little more exciting than just water the whole day. But for the past 2 years, I've learned how to ditch the diet and find FOOD FREEDOM.
It's been a journey (and trust me, not all of it has been pretty), but let me tell ya, being on the other side of both ends of the spectrum, I know 100% that food is THE BIGGEST contributing factor to a healthy lifestyle. .
So, what does a healthy relationship with food look like? .
Instead of counting calories or macros 👉🏻focus on portion control and using FOOD as FUEL.
Instead of feeling guilty if you indulge on date night or have one too many cocktails when you're hanging out with your gals 👉🏻 you acknowledge that life is meant to be LIVED and that "soul food" is important too.
Instead of binging behind closed doors because you have "off limit foods" 👉🏻you allow yourself occasional treats throughout the week because #moderationissexy .
Instead of feeling trapped, terrified and endlessly controlled by food 👉🏻you feel FREE. .
It's not going to happen overnight. It takes work, self awareness and a shiz ton of support, but from a gal who never thought it was possible, I promise you, with the right tools and people in your corner, it 100% is.
