More yoga please 🙏 After this week's intense workouts I'll take all the hip openers and down dogs I can get! Self care is so vital, especially when your body is working overtime.

Hip openers are especially important because tight hips will affect your mobility and put added pressure on your spine. Opening the hips can create an energetic shift or release as well.

Fun fact- Yogic tradition holds the hips as a storage ground for negative feelings and pent-up emotions, especially ones related to control in our lives and opening can create space for new ideas and freedom in the body and mind 🕉

Asana is an integral step towards the higher practices of yoga. When the body is quiet, strong and healthy, we can access more freely the other realms of our being.

Practice should be steady yet comfortable. This shloka can be applied not only to asana, but to most areas of life. As we are constantly being pushed and pulled, waxing and waning, giving and taking in many various ways on a daily basis.

My New Years resolution was to practice yoga EVERYDAY...and I haven’t🙈 Last week when I had the flu and my fever was shaking my whole body I simply couldn’t be bothered to roll out my yoga mat. For a moment I felt as if I was failing at my resolution. I so badly wanted to end the year being able to say that I did #yogaeverydamnday . But then I remembered how that’s not the point at all. I started this year long yoga journey for myself, for flexibility, supplemental training, and a time for me to relax and unwind. I’ve practiced yoga everyday except for when I was sick and that’s perfectly alright. Fitness shouldn’t be something to check off of your to-do list. Instead it should be a mindset. As I’m slowly getting back into training I’m taking time to LISTEN to my body rather than force myself into workouts before I’m completely healthy. Yoga for me is an act of self-care and isn’t something that should add anxiety into my life🌀✌️Living an active lifestyle shouldn’t be a burden. These days, in the era of “alternative facts” it seems everyone fabricates. We surgically modify our bodies, our social media is filled with highlight reels, and our celebrities get famous for nothing. Authenticity is rare. Owning the mundane, ugly, boring and not so fabulous side of life doesn’t appeal to us.

It takes courage to speak and act truthfully. It takes even more courage to BE your truth. Not your partner’s or your children’s or your friends’ or society’s truth, but YOUR truth.

Being honest about your life, the good, bad and the ugly, is a part of Satya that is frequently neglected. Not only can we become deluded about how good and virtuous we are, or about how we follow our soul’s yearning. But often many of us can become deluded about how bad we are as well.

We tell ourselves an infinite number of seemingly legitimate reasons for our inauthentic behavior. But deep inside we are well aware of our inconsistencies. We use tag lines like #LiveAuthentic when in reality, we haven’t a clue what that even means.

Satya frees us from our delusions and sets us on the path of living truth. The Mundaka Upanishad says, “Truth alone triumphs, not falsehood. Through truth alone lies the path of the gods.”

Be brave enough to live your truth, to think and speak and embody it fully, it really will set you free.

So I learned this shoulder stretch in San Diego and then I added a second block and strap for the extra ‘fun’. I thought it’s just sooo juicy if anyone out there is working on their handstand/shoulder flexibility/line maybe you would like torturing yourself as much as I do haha: Get alllll the way up to the wall. Strap as tight as shoulder width distance. Turn your hands flat and press your palms into the wall as you try not to squeeze the block (inward) very much (the block is meant to keep your hands from sliding in so actively resist away from squeezing the block and don’t rely on it too much). Alright now knit your ribs in (lift your chest and belly away from the floor) and tuck your tailbone while squeezing your legs together and tight. Also points for doing it without the strap or top block, focus on keeping your forearms parallel and elbows in #functionalasfuck •

Cupping was something I've dreamt of doing and I was not disappointed. It felt amazing (apart from the part when the cups are moved round after a while - you feel like your muscles are being torn apart) & it really helped in releasing all possible tensions. It is believed that through this, the chi/life energy/lymph/etc. are brought back to their normal flow, easing down all the stagnation on the vital energy points. I'll talk more about it on a blog post coming soon! I know it looks like I've been punched, beaten or sucked to the blood by a perfect O-mouthed inexistant lover, but it's cool! #cuppedtothebones

You can’t exactly see the full picture of this delicious stretch. I’m in seated wide legged forward fold or Upavistha Konasana, kinda like the splits. 
When I was in dance and gymnastics, I used to lay in the hallway at my grandma’s house, place my legs up the wall and drop them out into the splits. The gravity would eventually cause my legs to lower bit by bit. In the meantime, I would casually listen to Boyz to Men or whatever else I was into at the time. I would stay there for 15-20 minutes, in a sort of meditative state. Cheers to nostalgia and yoga! #yogadaily .
