It was a year ago today that I launched Comfort Food Cabaret to a wonderful bunch of supporters who generously donated to my musical-foodie project via the Australia Cultural Fund.
What a ride it has been! Thanks to these incredible champions Comfort Food Cabaret had the best start that it could've had and in one year we've performed to over 1200 people in the Central Market Kitchen, several beautiful private homes, Melbourne Fringe in the Gallery Penthouse, Mercato and Fox Creek Wines. We've won an award for best cabaret in the professional category, we've booked work for 2018 and my brilliant team and I have set up countless amounts of pop-up restaurants and met some amazing and fabulous people along the way. None of this would've been possible without our extended Comfort Food Cabaret family consisting of amazing volunteers, supporters, friends and family who's hard work completed the entire experience.
Now seems like a fitting time to announce that Comfort Food Cabaret will be back in 2018 for the Adelaide Fringe and playing at a brand new venue on Franklin Street called The Joinery from Friday 23rd Feb to the 17th March. This great space is run by the amazing folk at Conservation SA and will host us for 12 performances and three of those will be held over lunch on a Saturday with the rest taking place in the evening over the course of the fringe festival. We'll also be performing two shows at Mercato to kick of our Fringe season on Friday 16th & Sunday 18th Feb. Huge thanks to everyone who helped us find a venue with special thanks going to Belinda and Heather from Fringe for going above and beyond.
Comfort Food Cabaret in 2018 will feature new stories, recipes and songs with a few faithful favourites and we can't wait to feed you, serenade you and take everyone for a musical, foodie magic carpet ride. Tell your friends that you get to eat the food! Tickets on sale next week. Stay tuned for announcements around Comfort Food Cabaret Christmas Vouchers. *
Thanks to everyone who came along to @nolaadelaide last night for some Blues and Brews. It was such a pleasure to play some tunes with dreamboat guitarist, Django Rowe. Big thanks to @jen_star24 for the pic, to the crowd of new and old faces that came along and to @nolaadelaide for supporting live music and for having us. Until next time...
Comfort Food Cabaret Melbourne Fringe (aka Penthouse pop-up musical restaurant) is now done and dusted for 2017. Thank you to the beautiful audiences that joined us for three unforgettable dinner parties during our short season. It's been such an incredible, exhilarating, informative and exhausting experience. My limbs and my voice are tired, my feet are swollen and I'm exhausted beyond belief but I feel so proud and I'm so delighted by how it was received by our Melbourne audiences.
It's been at least four months in the making, with endless hours of planning, budgeting, list making and marketing. It's been character building, stressful, satisfying and thrilling and we've definitely learnt what works and what can be improved. Comfort Food Cabaret isn't the kind of show that can easily be packed into a suitcase and bumped into any venue - the logistical components make it comparative to a intricate dinner event, it requires a small army to make it work and the cooking and music elements make it an expensive exercise which is also richly rewarding. But these are all the moving parts that make Comfort Food Cabaret the unique, generous, warm and delicious experience that it is today.
If you'd like to read my full post with thank you's to my Comfort Food Cabaret team and my suppliers and sponsors head to the link in my bio. *
Flying the flag for @brinkproductions_ at last night's Comfort Food Cabaret dinner party at Kate & John Irving's home celebrating Kate's birthday. Aaron and I weaved in some personal stories and song throughout the dinner service which consisted of @laveracheese haloumi, basil and sweet pickled red onion, slow cooked lamb shoulder, @laveracheese ricotta gnocchi two ways with pancetta and sage & a mushroom and basil sugo + sides. To finish everyone enjoyed sticky date pudding made with almond meal with a salted butterscotch sauce. Huge thanks to @nash_attack for his sublime keys talent and for being my Saturday night sous chef... he did so well. Very grateful to Kate & John, two of my biggest supporters and champions of Comfort Food Cabaret, for inviting us to entertain such an incredible group of guests. If you'd like to host your own Comfort Food Cabaret dinner party get in touch. It's definitely a dinner party with a difference. #loveforcooking#pearsoplates#comfortfoodcabaret#comfortfoodcabaretdinnerparties#comfortfoodcabaretathome#adelaidecatering#cook#birthdayfeast#brinkproductions#michellepearsonmusic#michellesingssa
My heart is full after such an exhilarating show on Saturday and catering for a gorgeous kitchen tea for a beautiful bride to be on Sunday - an entire weekend of cooking and singing. Thank you to the 41 fantastic people who came along to our Comfort Food Cabaret Dinner Party on Saturday evening and supported our fundraising efforts to take the show to Melbourne. Your warmth and fabulous company made the evening and it was great to get back in the saddle and do what I love after a very challenging few months.
Massive thanks to my sous chef/catering extraordinaire, Loren, and my well fed musicians Aaron and Michael as well as my volunteers Stu, Sue and Daniela. These are the people that work incredibly hard behind the scenes to make everything work and they do a brilliant job.
Huge thanks to Kaaren for being the most beautiful host and inviting us into her stunning home and thank you to Fox Creek Wines for their generosity (in the form of delicious award winning wines) and to Cheryl from Central Market Tours for selling raffle tickets as well as donating the raffle prize.
On Sunday we catered for 65 at a kitchen tea and Aaron and I performed a few songs and taught the beautiful bride how to make a delicious breakfast burger in a live cooking demo - Aaron confirmed it tasted pretty good...Well done Celeste!
Thank you to Lauren, Celeste and all the bridesmaids for having us and to Daniela for helping out yet again and being a brilliant catering assistant and to Maddi and Gabbi for being such delightful staff.
I was so run off my feet all weekend that I didn't take any photos - feel free to send them through if you were part of my musical foodie weekend. I love what I do! @lorenkq @nash_attack @mc_cherry1 @danni_cirocco @stuartsymons @sue_antony @dragon_health @fox_creek_wines @cherylturnersa @lauren_gentilcore @celestevillani @maddi.antony #comfortfood#comfortfoodcabaret#melbfringe#melbournefringe#melbournefringefestival#melbfringe17#michellepearsonmusic#michellesingssa#pearsoplates#loveforcooking
On Friday night, I catered for and entertained another great bunch of people at one of my musical dinner parties. This is a concept where I set up, cook, serve, sing, entertain and clean up so the hosts can enjoy their dinner party without the stress. I was testing these out with great success before my debut season of Comfort Food Cabaret but it's definitely taken off since the end of Fringe 2017. My exceptional team of musicians and family/friends who thankfully have great hospitality chops did a fantastic job for Felicity & John's 50th wedding anniversary dinner. I'm so delighted that I now spend most of my days planning and doing the things I love. Exhausting, exhilarating and hugely satisfying... thanks to those great people who've had my back every step of the way and big thanks to my awesome past and current clients. Drop me a line if you'd like to know more or would like to book your own musical dinner party. #catering#comfortfoodcabaret#comfortfoodcabaretdinnerparties#comfortfoodcabaretathome#michellepearsonmusic#loveforcooking#homecook#wellfedmusicians#dinnerparties
Some audience snaps and rave reviews from last night's Comfort Food Cabaret. I've been so overwhelmed by the support and love I've been getting from audience members. I love how this show connects me to people I've never met and it's so great to meet so many of them after the show. Thank you to everyone that has come along so far - your enthusiasm, eagerness to get involved and kindness has made this so very special for me. Can't wait to do it all again next week! #comfortfoodcabaret#loveforcooking#pearsoplates#michellepearsonmusic#adlfringe#grateful#soldout#ravereviews
We're back in the @thecentralmarketkitchen tonight for another sold out performance of Comfort Food Cabaret. It's been almost a week since Nashy has devoured a plate of @laveracheese Haloumi and he's hanging out for more and Michael's keen to put his thinking face on again. Only a handful of tickets left for next week's shows (our final week) if you want to see these brilliant musicians in action. Book via @adlfringe - thanks @plymography for this great shot! #michellepearsonmusic#laveracheese#haloumi#favouritemusicians#wellfedmusicians#adlfringe#loveforcooking#pearsoplates
Feeling pretty happy this morning after a fantastic two weeks of Comfort Food Cabaret. Thanks to the brilliant audiences for getting behind this foodie-music project of mine. Now for a little break and we'll be back next week. All remaining shows are almost sold out so head to Fringetix to snap up the last tickets. Thanks to @adriankaticphotography for this great shot. #comfortfoodcabaret#comfortfood#adlfringe#pearsoplates#loveforcooking#michellepearsonmusic
Audiences have been raving about Comfort Food Cabaret and everyone leaves wondering how I manage to sing and cook up a three course meal and get it out to the audience... Quite simply, it's made possible because of this superstar! Introducing my gorgeous friend and kitchen assistant/sous chef, Loren Quinn, who cooks and plates up an average of 216 serves of food in 90 minutes at every single show. She makes it look easy and still manages to laugh at my jokes, caters to dietary requirements, supports me through every second of the show, yells at me when I haven't made enough sauce or sticky date, smiles and swears under her breath when I tell her we've got ten extra people to feed and she makes sure my musicians are never hungry. We would all be lost without you @loren14 and Comfort Food Cabaret would not actually work without your skill, expertise and your mum's grill pan. Thanks to @adriankaticphotography for this brilliant photo. #comfortfoodcabaret#comfortfood#michellepearsonmusic#friendswhocooktogether#staroftheshow#whenwilllorenhaveherownshow#lorenforpm
