🌈”A little girl, radiant and beautiful, shapely as a fairy and exquisitely dressed.... She was clad in flowing, fluffy robes of soft material that reminded Dorothy of woven cobwebs, only it was colored in soft tintings of violet, rose, topaz, olive, azure, and white, mingled together most harmoniously in stripes which melted one into the other with soft blendings. Her hair was like spun gold and floated around her in a cloud, no strand being fastened or confined by either pin or ornament or ribbon.”🌈 - L Frank Baum, Road to Oz, 1909 ✨✨✨✨✨
This is my portrayal of the beautiful Polychrome of Oz, the Daughter of the Rainbow ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

I was looking through my files on my laptop today, and I came across some of my old(ish) illustrations, so I thought as a change from my usual design work, I’ll post some for you all to see 😊✏️
Since I was 6 years old (many moons ago now!) I have loved reading about the characters in the magical Land of Oz and all the adventures they had. Most of you probably learnt about Oz from the 1939 movie, but there is SO much more to this world than what is portrayed in MGM’s version. Infact, the movie version isn’t even that accurate. 🌈✨
Anyway, moving on! 😂 So I’ve pretty much read all of the Oz stories, especially the famous 14, written by the original author L.Frank Baum. Somehow (actually, not surprisingly), the stories and characters of Oz made their way into my dreams, and this is where my own character, Sapphire, the Tin Maiden of Oz, came from (currently writing an epic novel of her story). 🌈✨
Here, there are two versions: The clean version (purple representing the Gillikin Country, where she originated from 💜) and the other, all bloody from fighting in battle (a rare occasion in Oz, but is has happened). I created these illustrations approx back in 2013, using Photoshop CS5. 🌈✨
Obviously, I was inspired by Japanese manga at the time 😜#photoshopart#photoshopillustration#landofoz#oz#tinmaiden#mangainspired#lfrankbaum#wizardofoz#tinlady#artoninstagram#ozinspired
The Wizard of Oz told from Toto’s point of view. ✔️
Written by Michael Morpurgo. ✔️
This book fairly jumped into my hands at the bookstore. We all enjoy reading Michael Morpurgo and a few of us are rather big Wizard of Oz fans.
I will admit that as fun as this book may have been, the original novel is so much better. And some of the changes Morpurgo made didn’t really make sense to those of us who have read more than the first book in the Wizard of Oz series.
So, if you have not read L. Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz, read that before you read this. Maybe even read the first 3 or 4 books before you read this. And then since you’ve read that many you might as well keep going and finish the series. 😉
In my collection, I have the 1909 edition of L. Frank Baum’s “The Road to Oz.” Those notes at the top of the dedication page have always mystified me. 🎼 Are they a part of a message Baum wanted to give his grandson? For what instrument are those notes meant? 🎶
Ah! But that’s just a small part of the intricacies and mysteries behind a book’s magic 😊 📖
What book do you treasure?
If you’d like, I’d also be happy to share more pictures of “The Road to Oz” later :) Have a great night everyone! 🌝 🌚 🌙
Happy #socksunday book buddies!
I love my ruby slippers socks most of all because THE WIZARD OF OZ was my absolute favorite book and movie as a child. It opened my eyes to a world beyond the one we are in. A world where a cowardly lion, a tin woodman, and (my favorite) a scarecrow could befriend a Kansas girl on an amazing adventure down a yellow brick road to a city of emerald 🖤
What was your favorite childhood story or movie?
Did you know that in the book Dorothy’s shoes were actually silver not ruby red? Apparently red showed up better in Technicolor than silver.
Now I love the movie The Wizard of Oz. It would have to be in my top 10 of all time. However why oh why did I wait so long to read the book??? I really shouldn’t be surprised that it’s even better than the film should I? Plus on reflection It occurred to me that in the movie Dorothy is portrayed as a bit of a damsel in distress in a lot of scenes whereas in the book she is the one frequently rescuing her friends. Who would have thought that a story first published in 1900 would have such a strong female lead. She certainly shows a lot of resilience and determination.
This is the next read aloud for me and my girl.

Best of luck on your final performances. Wonderful experience in the Ruby Row! A memory my baby girl will always cherish. To carry on her love of Oz, we're reading the original story. Not as colourful as the adaptations, but its something she enjoys experiencing with daddy. 💗
#bookstagram#livre#instalivre#instabook#gaufresdeliege#miammiam#nomnom#instafood#lfrankbaum#lemagiciendoz
