Road-trips can be risky but especially for African Americans traveling during the Jim Crow era, finding safe places to eat and sleep were of the utmost importance. Recognizing this need, mail carrier Victor Hugo Green began publishing “The Green Book” between 1936 and 1966, which identified hotels, restaurants, and other amenities that would offer friendly and reliable service to African Americans. Beginning in 1957, Green listed the Crater Cottages in Klamath Falls (currently apartments off Oregon Ave) as one of only eight places recommended in Oregon for travelers to stay. Probably one of my favorite pictures I've taken so far. On the way home from a photoshoot with the bro @gabeovgard , I was able to snag a few bangers of Southern Oregons finest 🌅🌲
