A great birthday weekend!
Wess and I rode the 12 hours of santos as a 2 man team and what a race. I have done many 12 hour and 6 hour races with teams but this was by far the hardest. I got a good spot on the front row for the run and was 5th into the woods. Fallowing dudes like Ryan Woodall I knew I needed to back it down since I had a long day ahead. I brought it back and rode my race just keeping positions. All was going well until just after the transition where I got a flat, a spot where many others had later on. I ran back to the transition where Carl W Cheshire saved the day and got on another bike AND fixed my flat while I was doing my lap. I went hard and passed 45+ people in one lap trying to make up time. After getting in and sending Wess out for 2 laps, I looked at the early standings and we were 6th place and 12 mins behind first. I thought our race was done for. We kept up though with 37-38 min laps and brought the gap down to 5 mins at one point but first was too strong and had too much of a beginning lead for us to catch them. Wess and I rode hard and came away with second. We are happy with our performance and take pride in what we were able to do. I drained myself on my first full lap and suffered because of it.
Fast forward to this morning and I got to do a great recovery ride with some awesome friends. I want to thank my parents for helping get to this point and supporting me through all of my racing. Although Wess doesn’t have social media, I want to thank him to for helping me make these crazy races happen and after I convince him to do them, not let me back out.
Everyone I have tagged has helped me get to where I am and i wish I had taken the time to thank all of you personal sooner. It will come in time. Thank you all.
