NGC 2359 (also known as Thor's Helmet) is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. The nebula is approximately 11.96 thousand light years away and 30 light-years in size. The central star is the Wolf-Rayet star WR7, an extremely hot giant thought to be in a brief pre-supernova stage of evolution. It is similar in nature to the Bubble Nebula, but interactions with a nearby large molecular cloud are thought to have contributed to the more complex shape and curved bow-shock structure of Thor's Helmet. It is also catalogued as Sharpless 2-298 and Gum 4. The nebula has an overall bubble shape, but with complex filamentary structures. The nebula contains several hundred solar masses of ionised material, plus several thousand more of unionised gas. It is largely interstellar material swept up by winds from the central star, although some material does appear to be enriched with the products of fusion and is likely to come directly from the star.The expansion rate of different portions of the nebula varies from 10km/s to at least 30km/s, leading to age estimates of 78,500 - 236,000 years. The nebula has been studied at radio and x-ray wavelengths, but it is still unclear whether it was produced at the class O main sequence stage of development, as a red supergiant, luminous blue variable, or mainly as a Wolf-Rayet star.

The Heart Nebula, IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190, lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by William Herschel on 3 November 1787. This is an emission nebula showing glowing ionized hydrogen gas and darker dust lanes. The very brightest part of this nebula (the knot at the western edge) is separately classified as NGC 896, because it was the first part of this nebula to be discovered. The nebula's intense red output and its configuration are driven by the radiation emanating from a small group of stars near the nebula's center. This open cluster of stars known as Melotte 15 contains a few bright stars nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun, and many more dim stars that are only a fraction of our Sun's mass.

McGlutch, He Smoked Too Much” by Ellen Raskin tells the story of a family of Zebras that go to visit their rich cousin Moe. Little Zeeke Zebra urges Moe to quit smoking after he burns a hole through his house, almost burns down a forest, and angers a sea monster (who also insists that he smokes too much). Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is an easily recognized mark of the planet. This amazing otherworldly storm however, is fading away. It has been for awhile.

🗞The storm has been estimated to have been around since the 1600’s and used to be 4 times the diameter of earth.
.
🔭“Now it’s something like 13 degrees wide in longitude and only 1.3 times the size of the Earth,” says Jet Propulsion Lab scientist Glenn Orton.
.
💨“The GRS (Great Red Spot) is stable and long lived because it’s ‘wedged’ between two jet streams that are moving in opposite directions.”
.
Glenn also stated that “nothing lasts forever.” .
🛰This information was confirmed by a recent Juno flyby and inspection of the GRS. This flyby also gave us information about how deep and hot the storm is. It’s 100 times deeper than earths oceans and significantly warmer than Jupiter’s upper atmosphere.

The GRS has been fading since the 1800’s and will most likely die within our lifetimes.

💡“The GRS will in a decade or two become the GRC (Great Red Circle), Maybe sometime after that the GRM” - The Great Red Memory (Orton).

Sunrise on Mars: Our Opportunity rover was built to last 90 sols, or Martian days. The intrepid rover has survived to see 5,000 sols of exploration and counting. A sol lasts about 40 minutes longer than an Earth day.

Here we see sunrise as a new day breaks over the Red Planet on sol 4,999, Feb. 15, 2018. This view looking across Endeavour Crater was taken with Opportunity’s Panoramic Camera (Pancam), yielding this processed, approximately true-color scene. This view combines three separate exposures taken and was processed to correct for some of the oversaturation and glare, though it still includes some artifacts from pointing a camera with a dusty lens at the Sun. 
Opportunity has driven a little over 28.02 miles (45.1 km) since it landed in the Meridiani Planum region of Mars in January 2004.

Our Sun was caught peaking over Earth’s arch and stretching its glorious light across the South Pacific on Feb. 16. Astronaut Scott Tingle captured this beaming moment while aboard the International Space Station (@iss), which can also be spotted in the glow of daybreak. Six humans are currently living and working on the International Space Station conducting important science and research that will not only benefit life here on Earth, but will help us venture deeper into space than ever before. As of last week, the latest crew members had completed more than 100 hours of science, breaking the record for hours of research conducted.

Io is so volcanic that it’s surface changes completely every earth month. Europa could have a huge ocean under its surface that would be way bigger than all the water on earth and there could be a possibility that it may contain life. Ganymede is the biggest moon in our solar system and is the only moon known to have a magnetic field! Callisto is super cool since its surface is the oldest in our solar system! There is no erosion, plate tectonics, or anything so the surface has a lot of history! Callisto is also 99% the size of mercury. Sometimes I truly believe that moons are cooler than planets.

Here we see sunrise as a new day breaks over the Red Planet on sol 4,999, Feb. 15, 2018. This view looking across Endeavour Crater was taken with Opportunity’s Panoramic Camera (Pancam), yielding this processed, approximately true-color scene. This view combines three separate exposures taken and was processed to correct for some of the oversaturation and glare, though it still includes some artifacts from pointing a camera with a dusty lens at the Sun. 
Opportunity has driven a little over 28.02 miles (45.1 km) since it landed in the Meridiani Planum region of Mars in January 2004.

This is the Lockheed Martin Verturestar (X-33). It was meant to replace the Space Shuttle but was cancelled in 2001. The orbiter was a SSTO (Single stage to orbit) meaning it did not require any extra fuel tanks or boosters to get to orbit. Interesting fact-My Father was on this project when he was working for Lockheed and it’s always interesting to hear stories about it’s development.
