Logic's newest mixtape while not great is being severly overhated. It's become a meme more or less to say he's trash so if you want clout just give this a 1 make a few jokes and you're set. However I thought this was an ok release. The Rick and Morty skit I found to be a humorous way for Logic to distinguish the difference between his albums and mixtapes without simply stating it himself in a cheesy fashion. The production mostly handled by 6ix provided many infectious up tempo beats and we all know Logic can manipulate his flow in interesting ways. Yes there are moments on here that make you cringe like when he sings "I treat ppl with respect and now I'm rich" or when he speaks on his love for his wife then says he "crucifies the pussy". Lines like that make for a weird dynamic where Logic tries to be a nice guy and a hype icon simultaneously. I would say inconsistency defined this project as some stretches were great and some were nearly unlistenable. In the end for a mixtape intended to be a fun quick ride I don't hate it. Let the man live, he just tryna have some fun in the booth.

Does XXXTentacion still have potential?
After one listen to XXXTentacion’s latest album “?” I knew it wasn’t good. “?” was a cluttered mess of 18 tracks spanning 37 minutes that covers all genres from rap, pop, emo, and much more. I enjoy diversity on an album, it keeps the music fresh and on my toes but in this instance it’s just so inconsistent and X just seems lost on what he wants to achieve. 17 was a pretty mediocre album but far from a bad one, I’m one of the few people that gave it a 5.5/10 instead of the community normal of about a 3/10. Now on “?” the highs are much higher than 17 but the lows are so much lower that makes for a painful listen at time. To start with the couple of good things on the album, infinity (888) was amazing. Joey Bada$$ killed the feature while X was good himself, the vocals were great too. Floor 555 was interesting being that it sounded like X from years past. I don’t want to touch much on the bad but I don’t speak spanish lol and $$$ are examples of moments on “?” that are just painful to sit through. Overall “?” is at best a 4/10, it’s pretty bad.
Even after a poor album and his past allegations I still think XXXTentacion has the potential to put out a great album. 17 showed potential even if it’s a middling album, also some of his pre prison music I found very enjoyable. If XXXTentacion can focus on a certain sound or two like a mix of the members only series aggression with the emotion of a 17 or Vice City I truly think X can make an 8/10 full length project. Tracks like the already mentioned infinity (888) prove my point. XXXTentacion is young. 95% of the time young artists are raw and hasn’t found there sound yet. If he can stray away from his antics I think he can develop into a very good artist. While I say this, it’s far from a guarantee it will happen. He’s the most polarizing figure in rap right now for a reason, hopefully through 2018 we can figure this question out.
