Kudos to Jerseyville East Elementary School Principal Kim Anderson for her wonderful S.T.A.R. (Sit Together And Read) program, Jamie Kanallakan for being a community minded dad and Judy Nurnberger for her tireless contribution to your children as the Unit 100 Library Secretary. Jamie approached our Director Anita Driver asking what could be done to get books in the hands of the children he read with at the S.T.A.R. program, who told him they did not have books at home.
It just so happens that at the Jerseyville Public Library we have a very nice selection of books for children in our Friends of the Library Book Sale. So they wouldn’t lose out on income (a win-win for all), Jamie and Michelle Lyons made donations to the Friends with which we were able to select and give approximately 175 books to the S.T.A.R. Book Exchange.
Judy stocked this adorable, 3 story house book shelf, which Jamie built and painted, with books. Children are encouraged to take a book home to read, then return!
Be sure to stay tuned! You will be seeing more of these Little Free Libraries popping up in other places in Jerseyville, available for all ages. #libraries#littlefreelibraries#littlefreelibrary#jerseyville#books#gooddeeds#childrensbooks#librariestransform#librariesofinstagram#librariesmatter
We can’t decide what’s cuter: These kiddos or their cotton candy crafts 😍. During Miss Laurie’s Preschool Storyhour last week, the kids got to make these crafts that really feel like cotton candy! Come by for this month’s Preschool Storytime for the theme “Monkey Business” 🙈🙉🐵 #Jpl#jerseyville#monkey#cottoncandy#storytime#books#libraries
Congratulations to the winner of our #Beanstack Winter Reading Challenge, Sara Casselman! Over the month of January, the Jerseyville Library participated in a world-wide reading challenge hosted by Beanstack, an online book discovery & reading log service for children and families. Investor, Billionaire and Shark Tank personality Mark Cuban challenged communities across the globe to meet a collective goal of reading at least one million minutes and 50,000 books during the month of January. For our Library, since we only recently started utilizing Beanstack, our personal goal was to log 10,000 minutes. We hit and exceeded our goal by reaching 18,684 minutes read!
From all participants our winner was chosen by most amount of minutes logged in the month of January, and Sara wowed us by logging over 4,000 minutes! For all her hard work she received an Android reading tablet, perfect for using our ebook & audiobook apps, and for logging her reading on Beanstack. Thank you to all those who participated, and keep a look out for future Reading Challenges to come! #librariestransform#librariesofinstagram#library#illinois#jerseyville#zoobean#jpl
We’ve been asked to share the “Ugliest Cover In Our Stacks”, and though we think all books are beautiful, we had to choose this children’s book from 1973. “Moe Q. McGlutch, He Smoked Too Much” by Ellen Raskin tells the story of a family of Zebras that go to visit their rich cousin Moe. Little Zeeke Zebra urges Moe to quit smoking after he burns a hole through his house, almost burns down a forest, and angers a sea monster (who also insists that he smokes too much). It recently was on our list of “dusty” books to discard, after not being checked out for years, so this interesting book will no longer be found on our stacks 📚📚 We couldn’t help but share it though! 😂 #RFS2018#reachingforwardsouth#illinois#illinoislibraries#uglybooks#jerseyville#jpl#smoking
🎶For the first time in foreveerrrr🎶 our hardworking cataloger Chris has some space!! In our office behind her desk in that open area you see here, there is usually a large cart FULL of brand new books to add to our collection. After 2 days of hard work from Chris, our Director Anita, and our Communications Librarian Christi, we were able to COMPLETELY empty Miss Chris’ cart by cataloging & barcoding over 150 books, DVDs & CDs. It’s so easy for fun new things to pile up! You’ll be seeing these new items on our shelves within the next few days 😄🙌🏻📚 #newbooks#happyworkers#cataloging#libraries#jpl#jerseyville#library#jerseyvillelibrary#officespace
I pass Jerseyville on my commute to Freehold everyday. I would have never noticed it if it wasn’t for this little cemetery from the 1830s on Okerson Road in the area that used to be called Lower Squankum in Farmingdale. @natemccallister for @jerseycollective
Put your drinking pants on. Tell grandma to put her teeth in. Round up your crew. It will be my pleasure to perform for you at PROOF in Jerseyville, Illinois from 9-12. #LiveMusic#Jerseyville#dinner#drinks
