A sprinkle here and there can go a long way. You don't have to have many spices and herbs stocked in. I always recommend between 3 to 5 for the novice/occasional cook. Flavours you like and 1 or 2 that is new. This helps to extend your creativity in the kitchen and flavour palate with different sensations, while experimenting with dish quantities that suit you.
