A charming face that often catches many by surprise, the Pacific Northwestern Raccoon can lend a helping hand in keeping your yard free of pests. From destroying wasp nests to get at the larvae, to eating rodents, raccoons can be beneficial.
After a long busy weekend teaching thousands of people about birds at College Royal, bird work still wasn't over! Today Jenny and I worked with Thomson together to try out some new enrichment. This is the tail end after he (eventually...) discovered all the meat we had hidden away for him in the paper towel hes standing on, and when he hops back to his original stump he even does something called a rouse! This is a behaviour that tells us Thomson is feeling safe and comfortable while we work with him :)
Thomson is a non-releasable Great Grey Owl who is in training to become an educational ambassador for his species with @wild_ontario!
