Ever since we learned that bacteria aka probiotics, is good for us, the yogurt selection at our grocery stores have exploded with so many options. Here are some facts to know when shopping for a healthier yogurt.
Look for the statement “Live and Active Cultures” so you know you’re getting the beneficial bacteria. These good bacteria can help break down lactose, so many people with lactose intolerance can enjoy yogurt!
Check out the protein content. Regular yogurts (which include French/Australian/custard style, Activia) have ~6-8grams of protein per serving. Greek yogurt, which is strained yogurt to remove the excess liquid, has ~20grams of protein. Skyr is Icelandic style yogurt; it is strained a bit longer than Greek and it is more thick, less tart, and can have ~25grams of protein per serving. Dairy free options like soy milk/almond milk yogurt only has ~6grams of protein per serving.
Check out the sugar content. Many flavored yogurts and those with extra mix-ins can have as much added sugar as a dessert!! Consider getting plain yogurt and add your own fresh fruit to not only reduce calories, but to help add more fiber, and ultimately, cut down on added sugars.
Extra tips: you can make your own Greek style yogurt by setting regular yogurt over some paper towels/coffee filters to strain out the liquid whey overnight. Activia is regular yogurt with an extra bacteria strain but you need to eat 3 Activias per day to see changes in GI function.

Lunchtime cravings for this goodness 🤤 I’m stuck at work and currently do not have this in front of me, but it’s all I want right now! Baked and seasoned potato chips with a big fresh salad and lime+chili guacamole 🥑🌶✨ The best way to get potato chips that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside is to place a little tray of water in the bottom of your oven (sounds counterintuitive but it works!). The outside of the chip gets a puffed, crisped skin and the inside stays soft and delicious - no oil required! 🥔❤️
This little cutie is the perfect morning or afternoon snack! 💕 Simply blend one frozen banana with a handful of frozen blueberries and raspberries, one medjool date, and some almond or soy milk and you’re good to go 😛 I think frozen berries are such a great way to increase your fruit and nutrient intake - they contain a heap of antioxidants and vitamins that assist with fighting inflammation and supporting the immune system 💪🏼 Not to mention, they taste great and they make things look pretty 🙈🌸🍓🍒 What’s your favourite way to incorporate berries? Mine is loaded on top of waffles 🤤
I’m always on the look out for healthy snack options. As a busy mom I don’t always have time to browse the aisles at the grocery store. When I discovered @GrazeUSA subscription box I was super excited! 🎉
Not only is it healthy & wholesome but the variety is amazing and all so yummy. 🙌 Try it out as the first box is free!

To most people’s surprise, a glass of red vino could help you with your weight loss efforts. A study from Oregon State University revealed that the dark red grapes found in some types of red wine can help people manage obesity and a metabolic fatty liver, due to a chemical called ellagic acid. This chemical slows down the growth of fat cells and stops new ones from being created, which boosts the metabolism of fatty acids in liver cells. Having to work all day can be where a lot of people fall off track when it comes to their fitness goals! It’s super easy to just say fudge it and go to a drive thru! But it’s just as easy to pack healthy snacks and a lunch! That’s what I do and it’s really not difficult at all!! I know personally I used to pack like a box of cheese itz or pop tarts lol which have no nutritional value at ALL! But now I have a lunch box full of healthy goodies! I always carry a couple pieces of fruit, a granola bar, and then usually turkey wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla! What’s everyone’s go-to snacks???
Currently in the midst of a full weekend of performances and I thought I would share with you all some of my favorite snacks I bring with me to keep me fueled and energized
I always start my morning out with a hearty breakfast of oatmeal, almond butter, and a banana to keep me full and to kickstart my day. Here are a few easy snacks I like to take with me to the theater to snack on during the day:
(my favorite is the Peanut Butter or Dark Chocolate Sea Salt)
These bars have natural sugars and whole ingredients that are great for a quick energy boost
HUMMUS AND PEPPERS
I love snacking on bell peppers and hummus for a crunchy and healthy source of fat and a little protein
I prefer to roast sweet potatoes and onions ahead of time in the oven with a little salt, pepper, and olive oil, but if you need a quick fix you can pierce a few holes and bake one in the microwave
CHICKPEA OR LENTIL PASTA
@traderjoes carries some great varieties of these pastas and are super easy to whip up for a protein packed yummy meal!

BOX JUMPS 💪🏻 Let’s talk about something I hate doing: cardio. Steady state cardio is something I have never enjoyed, and for me, if you don’t enjoy it, why do it?
I still find it very important to keep my heart rate up during exercise but like to do it in other ways, like box jumps or jump rope.
Try this circuit for your next workout:
1️⃣ goblet squats x 10
2️⃣ box jumps x 10
3️⃣ hammer curl w/plate x 10
4️⃣ Russian twist x 30
5️⃣ shoulder press x 10
I used to absolutely dread side planks, but now they’re one of my favorites! 👏🏻 1️⃣ great for core stabilization and oblique work
2️⃣ great for shoulder stabilization
3️⃣ Try adding a kettlebell to increase the demand on your core and to increase the need for shoulder stabilization!
4️⃣Make sure to keep your arm straight up, in alignment with your stationary shoulder to avoid injury (still workin on that one) 😜
