We constantly focus on our physical bodies, but what about the mind? After all, the mind controls the body- how we move, how we train, how we eat, how we rest.

When I get too caught up in the stress of everyday life- gym, work, food, @gymberly.fit, friends, etc- I always bring myself back by focusing on what I am grateful for. You may not have your dream body, you may not have hit that PR, you may have ripped both your hands completely open on 18.1 (👀looking at myself on that one), but if you take a second to acknowledge the things that are going right in your life, you'll realize you are right where you need to be.

So what am I grateful for?

The love and support of all of you, my friends and followers. Writing, posting, sharing my fit life with you guys is almost always the highlight of my day. It keeps me on track to my own goals, and I hope that it's helping you to reach yours. I took a rush and made Goats cheese and Chicken , pitta pizza for dinner and a nice cup of tea that I can’t get enough of, on the side, which can’t be seen in this photo, in my lovely new mug. 
I also baked done fish gingers that I wound up eating as the pizzas were being baked because I was very hungry 😋

Many trainees are unaware of the amount of tension and slack there is built up in a bar while performing a deadlift. I  advise that you remove the slack from the bar before pulling the weight off the ground for a few reasons.

First it makes for an easier, smoother, less rigid pull. Secondly it allows you to utilize and maximize biomechanics and laws of physics to optimize weight pulled. Understanding leverages and mechanical tension will allow you to get the most out of your lifts.

Lastly and most importantly, if you don't remove the slack by pulling it out prior to lifting the weight you distort your setup. When you set up for the lift you're in a bio mechanical advantageous and optimal position to pull weight. Think of your body as a slingshot ready to release however when you pull up prior to removing the slack you lose all of the built up tension, you deviate from your path of pull and are forced to reset the movement in a less bio mechanical advantageous position in an instant which leads to a decrease in strength and increase in the risk for injury. -

Typically we see force and load being transferred from the glutes to the low back, causing disc herniations, muscle tears etc. Standing just a little higher than the weight you're lifting increases the range that you have to move the weight through. When you deadlift with a deficit for three to four weeks, your muscles get used to lifting the weight for that longer range. Then, when you return to standing on the floor to deadlift, your increased strength will allow you to lift more weight.

Leaves, when dried and brewed into tea, are highly astringent and, as such, were used medicinally to treat coughs, tuberculosis, and digestive problems.
