Today marks the first leopard gecko hatchlings of the season! This girl and her sister (who is on her way out of the egg) hatched a little sooner than expected. They aren’t anything fancy, the pairing was a SHTCTB x Bold tremper so these babies should have nice vibrant colors, bold markings (if they keep any, dad is completely patternless), and be het for Tremper Albino. These will be great for any beginner breeding stock or make great pets. Not everything you produce is going to be a 500 dollar animal and that’s perfectly ok, because a kid who wants to buy his or her’s first reptile might only have 30$ to spend. #leopardgecko#hatchling#reptile#reptilebreeder#eggs#hatching#gecko
There are a lot of new things at Moss Mountain Farm this Spring! New flowers, a refreshed garden, new friendships and weddings....and new hatchlings! While most of our friends know us as a place of garden beauty and organic practices, Moss Mountain Farm is also a conservancy for at-risk American Heritage poultry. Did you know? An adult Leatherback Sea Turtle can be six feet long! This hatchling is only a few inches, and only 1 in 1,000 make it to adulthood. They face many threats daily and need help – from illegal egg poaching, light pollution, plastic pollution, habitat loss… the list goes on. Luckily, there are many organizations and awesome people working hard for turtle conservation. I love Leatherback Sea Turtles and learned a lot about them during a great internship with Ecology Projects International in Costa Rica in 2011.
Looking forward to another trip to Costa Rica next week… this time with the whole family! Stay tuned for photos.
