Photo of the exposed joinery on an early #hanswegner 501 #roundchair backrest, which has had the original cane wrapping removed. The backrest is pine, with large blocky finger joints. Later models refined this joinery to use tapered finger joints, and the backrest was no longer wrapped with caning to hide the joints, and hardwood was used to construct the backrest instead of pine. Fakes often have a butt joint with dowels. Sometimes it is claimed that this butt joint was original to the older cane wrapped backrests, but this claim is false, and chairs with butt jointed backrests are not genuine.

A little something we spotted for the first time at this year’s fair. Hans Wegner’s 1st ever piece for @getamadanmark. Needless to say we were instantly in love with the GE1 Daybed. #hanswegner#daybed#scandinaviandesign
