This saw was given to me by a friend of @jeweleigh654, it came to me with a layer of rust and an uncomfortable plastic handle. A little bit of ash and a lot of file/sandpaper work later it's like a whole new saw. I used a coat of natural Danish oil and then a coat of dark walnut danish oil, while not what I was expecting I'm very happy with how the dark walnut popped the growth rings of the ash. Its crazy how much more joy out of using tools that I've made or modified than those that have been purchased. #ashwood#danishoil#handsaw#handtools#woodworking
Picked these up at Ed's Tool Store Sunday. A Disston D8 5pt rip saw (with the fancy thumb hole) and a Sargent 409 smoothing plane. All tuned up and ready for more work!
From measuring to cutting, these additions continue and the first being an ergonomically designed handle.
The second being its eco-friendly wax coating on the blade that serves a dual purpose of assisting the blade to glide through the material, as well as preventing it from rusting.
The next is its 3 phase ground teeth, giving it a good bite for straight cuts to minimize chipping of the material.
When the blade isn’t chewing its way through the material, the teeth are kept clean using the durable blade protector.
Another fancy feature is that the blade can be changed easily with its quick release function.

I bought this dovetail saw from a local guy off of Craigslist about a year and a half ago. It was my first hand tool purchase back when I hadn't even learned the difference between rip and crosscut teeth. It got me started into woodworking. It feels great in my hand. It has helped me build a few boxes, picture frames, my workbench and, yes, even my first dovetails. It also got me started on my attraction to Keen Kutter tools. But when I started in woodworking, I resolved to pass tools along so that, in a way, I could pass the craft along. I also promised myself I wouldn't become a collector and have redundant tools collecting dust on shelves or displays. So, I've packed this old friend up and off it will go to someone new, ready to be put to work. And now I get to shop for a new one...
