🥖There are two types of carbohydrates; simple, high GI carbohydrates and complex, low GI carbohydrates…but which one is best pre workout?
👀This ultimately depends on your goal and the time of your pre workout meal. Simple carbohydrates are great for 30 minutes to an hour before a workout as they provide the body with fast acting glucose as fuel. .
💪🏼However, complex carbohydrates also play a role within your energy metabolism. By consuming low GI carbohydrates around 2-3 hours before a workout, you can give your body a slow releasing source of energy. This means you’ll be able to work out for longer and be less likely to crash and burn in the middle of your training.
✅To prevent muscle catabolism when we exercise, glycogen stores are quickly used up and depleted so the body looks for new sources of energy – our muscles. By breaking down hard earned muscle the body can utilize amino acids for energy! This is BAD as it puts our bodies into a catabolic state which can prevent muscle growth and recovery.

Monday I will have completed 4 weeks of the elimination phase of the low FODMAP Diet. I had originally planned 3 weeks elimination but after even worse symptoms the first 1.5 weeks I needed longer to basically start over. I am not "cured" and it was not the magical fix I had hoped for but I am starting to feel better overall now. My symptoms are much less overall and my constant distention is gone except some bloating here and there still. My eczema has not improved and I've actually developed a new patch.
I need help from fellow FODMAPers: should I start reintroduction next week? I am now feeling very comfortable and content with the diet actually and terrified to have symptoms return. There's also still a few things I want to test out such as still different types of milks with my coffee as this is still the worse time of day for me and I actually got pretty severe burning, pain and distention a few times this week. (I'm in denial it could be the acidic coffee! ❤️☕️) I think it could be the lactaid milk although it should be tolerated-I was using soy milk for years and minimal dairy for a while.
My rational mind knows I can always return to elimination when needed and it is important to start adding more variety back in, plus I want to enjoy eating out in a little over 1 month on vacation and feel more comfortable again. Advice please!
On another note, besides the coffee dilemma, my other biggest worry was switching up my daily breakfast to low FODMAP. Heaped a hot socca with all my favourite greens for lunch with my new obsession: roasted preserved lemons. As well as being a great probiotic for the gut, they go all caramel-ly when roasted but are still super sour which I love. I can tell you from experience I've spent many pool days missing out. Sitting on the sidelines, watching my kids play. I didn't want to remove my cover up. I refused to get in the pool. I was embarassed and ashamed that I had let myself go.
I'm always a work in progress and will continue to work on being the healthiest version of me. I don't do diets or meal replacements. I simply supplement and make better choices. Oranges are well known to be a great source of vitamin C – 1 large orange contains ~100mg. It is often thought that having large amounts of vitamin C will boost your immune system and prevent you from getting sick.
A preventative effect from colds is seen in athletes and people who undergo extreme physical stress regularly when consuming 200mg or more of vitamin C per day – the occurrence of colds can be reduced by as much as 50%! For the general population, having ~200mg or more of vitamin C per day has not been shown to reduce the risk of getting a cold; however, it may help to reduce the length and severity of symptoms if you have already caught a cold.
Take away point: eating a well-balanced diet that is rich in vegetables and fruit will ensure you meet your daily vitamin C requirement to help keep you healthy and help get you back on your feet if you’ve gotten sick!

If I could give one bit of advice to ADHD parents, it would simply be this. Love your child unconditionally (even when it's hard). If teachers can't teach your child, then ask them kindly to find a way to teach your child differently. If you can, move schools or consider homeschooling. Tell them you love them every day. Find the good in them. See their talents. Let them run and climb trees. Love them some more. Don't spend time and money seeing experts who don't understand your child or even what it's like to have ADHD. Google all the amazing people on the planet who have ADHD and realise you have been chosen to parent this child; you will only be given what you can handle. To make, used 2 servings @eatbanza Chickpea Spaghetti. Sautéed the veggies and added in 1/2 cup crushed tomatoes, scoop of Greek yogurt, fresh parsley, and a generous dash of onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and red chili flakes. Mix in some olive oil, and you’re all done! Serves 2
If you've been following my health journey over the last year you've probably seen or heard my health testimony, and if you haven't I would love to share it with you! ❤️🙌 I didn't join Plexus for weight loss, I decided I needed to focus on my gut health. I was dealing with so many health issues like constant stomach issues, anxiety, fatigue, trouble sleeping and more.
